Requirements
  • Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate credential, or an associate or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with at least 120 training hours in Infant/Toddler content and at least 480 hours of experience working with infants and toddlers.
  • A physical examination and background checks are required.
  • A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, a clean driving record, current auto liability insurance, and bondability by AVANCE, Inc. are required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Computer literacy using Microsoft Office applications, basic data systems, and internet navigation.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to implement program plans.
  • Ability to assess situations, identify trends, develop solutions, and apply critical assessments to the broader context.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and maintain dependable performance.
  • Ability to perform the stated physical demands, including walking, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, handling objects, and occasional lifting or carrying 10 to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work around occasional biological hazards and weather-related conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with a partner Teacher to operate a classroom of 6 to 8 children ages 0 to 3 and support each child's developmental progress and school readiness goals.
  • Use child growth and development principles to work with children and communicate with families and stakeholders.
  • Implement child-centered daily routines, curriculum, and learning environments that support social interaction, exploration, engagement, curiosity, and development for children of all abilities.
  • Create a nurturing and responsive environment that promotes self-regulation and social-emotional development, identify causes of challenging behavior, implement preventive measures, and teach social and communication skills in partnership with families.
  • Observe children and use anecdotal notes to document progress, individualize curriculum, and provide support.
  • Use the written curriculum to identify developmental and learning goals, learning experiences, family and staff supports, required materials, and social-emotional supports.
  • Assist in developing individual plans with goals, objectives, and activities based on each child's identified needs and outcomes.
  • Plan and implement learning experiences that advance cognitive and physical development, language, emergent literacy, print and numeracy awareness, appreciation of books, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Follow the program curriculum and provide natural play and hands-on experiences that reflect individual learning styles.
  • Implement developmentally and linguistically appropriate experiences that reflect the age, language, and culture of the children served.
  • Implement experiential learning activities that advance the intellectual and emotional competence of infants and toddlers.
  • Provide positive guidance and discipline as children acquire readiness skills.
  • Implement daily lesson plans based on children's needs and interests, observations, anecdotal records, early childhood development knowledge, and key experiences.
  • Implement Individual Family Services Plans for children with disabilities.
  • Provide consistent classroom routines responsive to individual infants' and toddlers' needs; feed infants on demand and hold non-mobile infants during feeding.
  • Create partnerships with families, encourage parent involvement, support family relationships, and provide opportunities for parents to develop child-observation skills and share assessments.
  • Encourage parent participation in conferences and home visits, and complete two home visits and at least two parent-teacher conferences per year with the partner Teacher.
  • Participate in parent orientation, the Parent-Child Education Program, case conferences, and other required family-service activities.
  • Identify and refer parents interested in volunteering or serving as substitutes, and support parent volunteers in the classroom.
  • Share relevant information with the Family Advocate to coordinate services for children and families.
  • Maintain regular parent contact and complete documentation such as daily reports on infant sleep, eating, and elimination.
  • Forward classroom updates to the Early Learning Lead or Assistant Education Lead for the monthly newsletter and direct developmental concerns to the Early Learning and Inclusion Lead.
  • Gather and maintain individual, family, and classroom data for documentation, ongoing assessment, evaluation, and program planning.
  • Assess children continuously, organize anecdotal notes around key goals and objectives, and document them in GOLD.
  • Analyze classroom child outcomes twice yearly with the teaching team, consult education leadership, and adjust curriculum planning and implementation as needed.
  • Participate in bi-weekly team and teacher meetings to reflect on performance, generate solutions, and maintain high-quality classroom operations.
  • Collaborate with the partner Teacher to prepare and post daily lesson plans for parents, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment.
  • Supervise classroom field trips and outdoor activities.
  • Request supplies and participate in classroom or program inventory as requested.
  • Model appropriate classroom practices.
  • Work with the Early Learning Lead, Assistant Education Lead, and partner Teacher to develop and support individual development plans for assigned volunteers.
  • Provide continuous supervision and ensure children's safety and security in accordance with Early Head Start and childcare licensing requirements.
  • Supervise and eat nutritionally prepared meals or snacks with children as a curriculum activity to model nutrition and social skills.
  • Follow disease and injury prevention regulations, proper diapering procedures, universal precautions, and contamination-prevention practices.
  • Conduct daily health checks.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
