Dollar General is a discount retailer that sells a wide range of everyday items at low prices through a network of neighborhood stores. It works by stocking products like food, cleaning supplies, health and beauty items, apparel, and seasonal goods and selling them in small-format stores that are easy to reach in many communities. The company keeps prices low by using a lean supply chain and buying in bulk, which helps it offer a broad selection while keeping operating costs down. Its advantage over competitors comes from its extensive store footprint in both rural and urban areas, a focus on convenience, and efficient logistics that support frequent low-price offerings. Dollar General aims to provide value and convenience to budget-conscious customers while growing rapidly through more store openings, expanded product lines, and continued supply chain improvements.

New Dollar General planned for Columbia Ave. in Glasgow.

New Dollar General planned for Columbia Ave. in Glasgow. Aug 19, 2026 | 10:00 AM An initial phase for a new Dollar General store off Columbia Avenue has been approved. The Joint City-County Planning Commission approved the preliminary and final development plan for Rafferty Development LLC to build at 502 and 504 Columbia Ave. during its Monday night meeting. Rafferty Development states on its website that it has over 20 years of building for Dollar General. "We have successfully complete more than 150 stores." The approval of the preliminary and final development plan allows Rafferty to apply for the building permits needed to start construction as long as they meet certain requirements. The location of the new store will be across from where Davis Street intersects with Columbia Avenue. It will be built where Street Eats Food Truck Assembly last used the mostly empty lot. A diagram of the redeveloped property was projected onto the wall. Planning director Kevin Myatt used that to explain the layout of the property, the flow of rain water through the property, where the entry to the parking lot would be placed, and all other features of the property once the store is built. "It is the [planning] staff's recommendation that the preliminary and final development plan for Dollar General, Rafferty Development LLC, be approved subject to the following conditions," Myatt said. The three conditions were: Adequate soil erosion and sedimentation control measures, shown on the approval plans, be implemented during and after site construction to reduce soil erosion and to minimize water runoff to the surrounding properties. Appropriated coordination with [Kentucky Transportation Cabinet] and all applicable utility providers occurs prior to any building permits being issued. Demolition of the site must coordinate with the Glasgow Code Enforcement officer.
