About the job

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of professional software or platform engineering experience, including at least 3 years directly managing Senior- or Staff-level engineers in a platform, infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering organization at a product-centric company.
  • Technical credibility with Staff+ engineers and comfort reasoning about cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), Infrastructure as Code (CDK, Terraform, or similar), Kubernetes-based production systems, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, ArgoCD, or similar), and service-to-service architecture.
  • A track record of creating leverage from autonomous senior engineers through context, challenge, feedback, and development rather than task management, and comfort managing people with greater domain expertise.
  • Experience translating company and engineering priorities into a coherent platform roadmap, distinguishing systemic problems from one-off requests, protecting foundational investment, and communicating tradeoffs and opportunity costs to managers and stakeholders.
  • Experience balancing planned roadmap work against keep-the-lights-on work, incidents, and unplanned operational demand, and establishing ownership and lightweight process without becoming the team's project manager.
  • Comfort partnering with senior technical individual contributors as complementary leaders while retaining technical judgment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication tailored to engineers, managers, and domain teams across engineering.
  • Strategic thinking, a product-first approach, customer focus, and judgment about technical investments appropriate to the company's current stage.
Responsibilities
  • Lead Platform Engineering, a small team of highly senior engineers building and operating the infrastructure and core services powering Honor's Care Platform, including cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and developer tooling, reliability and operations, security foundations, and shared architecture.
  • Own Platform's strategic roadmap and day-to-day execution while providing technical direction and engaging deeply when appropriate.
  • Create leverage from autonomous senior engineers through context, challenge, feedback, and development.
  • Translate company and engineering priorities into a coherent platform roadmap; distinguish systemic problems from one-off requests, protect foundational investment, and make tradeoffs and opportunity costs visible to managers and stakeholders.
  • Balance planned roadmap work against operational work, incidents, and unplanned demand, establishing ownership and lightweight process.
  • Partner with senior technical individual contributors as complementary leaders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience managing a newly formed or recently restructured team, including ramping new senior hires into ownership.
  • Experience at a technology startup and familiarity with the challenges of evolving platform maturity.
  • First-hand experience defining or evolving the boundary between a platform team and the domain teams it serves, including when domain teams should self-serve versus engage Platform directly.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure security review and compliance frameworks.
