Requirements
  • Proficiency in contemporary Linux containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Podman, Apptainer, OCI)
  • Experience in vanilla Kubernetes cluster administration, including networking, storage, and security
  • Strong background in Linux system administration and the ability to collaborate with other administrators to ensure system stability
  • Knowledge of systems programming in one or more common programming languages/frameworks
  • Understanding of GitOps principles and tooling, as well as CI/CD processes
  • Familiarity with web services and technologies, including architecture and deployment
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
  • To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
Responsibilities
  • Managing and optimizing on-premise Kubernetes clusters that support services interacting with traditional HPC workloads and infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with scientists and operations teams to design and implement solutions that address facility needs, including security, storage, scheduling, and authentication.
  • Administering and maintaining one or more on-premise Kubernetes clusters in a production environment.
  • Designing and implementing cluster services to meet facility requirements, focusing on security and integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with scientists and operations teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Working onsite in the Lemont campus up to 5 days per week, with some flexibility for remote work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of HPC operations, tools, and workflows (e.g., PBS Pro, Lustre)
  • Proficiency in Golang programming and experience with Kubernetes APIs
  • Experience in confidential computing technologies and practices
