About the company

Samskip provides multimodal logistics services across Europe, combining land, sea, and rail to move goods. Its network includes cold storage and cross-border transport, operating in more than 30 countries. The company works by offering integrated transport solutions: moving shipments through a coordinated mix of modes, with storage and handling at various points in the supply chain. Unlike some rivals that grow primarily by expanding fleets or routes, Samskip built its network through a series of acquisitions (for example Geest North Sea Line) to add capabilities and reach, and it shifted its headquarters to Rotterdam to be at the heart of European logistics. The company’s goal is to connect Europe through a comprehensive, multimodal logistics platform that can handle diverse customer needs—from standard freight to temperature-controlled storage and distribution.

Samskip joins HyShip to advance zero-emission shipping corridors.

Samskip joins HyShip to advance zero-emission shipping corridors. Samskip is taking another significant step towards the future of sustainable maritime transport by bringing its pioneering SeaShuttle project into the European HyShip initiative, strengthening collaboration to accelerate the development of liquid hydrogen infrastructure and support the commercial deployment of zero-emission shipping. The collaboration connects Samskip's two hydrogen-powered SeaShuttle vessels, currently under construction for operation between Rotterdam and Oslo, with a consortium of leading European maritime, energy, research, and regulatory partners working to develop the technologies, infrastructure, and operational standards needed to scale hydrogen-powered shipping across Europe. Unlike many demonstration projects, the Samskip SeaShuttles have always been designed with commercial operation in mind. Once introduced into service in 2027, the vessels will transport containerized freight between Rotterdam and Oslo using liquid hydrogen as energy source, creating one of Europe's first green shipping corridors. Each vessel is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 25,000 tonnes annually when operating in zero-emission mode, while demonstrating that sustainable shipping can become a practical reality for customers and supply chains. "Our SeaShuttles have always been about proving that hydrogen-powered shipping can work in everyday commercial operations, not just as a concept. By joining HyShip, we're taking an important step beyond the vessel itself. Together with our partners, we're helping develop the liquid hydrogen supply chain, bunkering infrastructure, and operational knowledge needed to make hydrogen-powered shipping scalable across Europe," said Jeroen Hollebrands, Head of Newbuilding & Projects, Samskip. The HyShip project addresses one of the industry's most important challenges: creating an end-to-end hydrogen ecosystem that connects fuel production, port infrastructure, and vessel operations. This integrated approach is essential to making hydrogen-powered shipping commercially viable on a larger scale. The Samskip SeaShuttles form an important part of Samskip's broader sustainability strategy, which combines one of Europe's most energy-efficient multimodal logistics networks with continued investment in alternative fuels and zero-emission technologies. Hydrogen-powered shipping represents a key milestone in delivering Samskip's ambitions while helping customers reduce the environmental impact of their supply chains.

Samskip has announced the appointment of Ólafur Orri Ólafsson as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Samskip Group, succeeding outgoing CEO Kari-Pekka Laaksonen. Ólafsson has held a range of strategic and operational roles within Samskip and brings long-term experience with the organisation. In a statement issued by the company, he said: "I am stepping into this role at an exciting time for our company, and I'm proud to be the one to take over from Kari-Pekka. Samskip launches Morocco-UK service

Samskip launches morocco-uk service. Samskip has launched a new container service between Morocco and the UK and the Netherlands. It will sail weekly from Agadir and Casablanca to Tilbury and Rotterdam. Connections are available in Rotterdam on Samskip's multimodal network, including Ireland, the Nordics and Central Europe. To support the new route, Samskip has invested in a new fleet of GPS-equipped reefers, including 750 40ft units and 250 45ft high cube pallet-wide containers. Equipped with Controlled Atmosphere technology, these containers regulate oxygen, CO[2], humidity, and temperature to keep fruit and vegetables fresh for up to forty-five days. Agadir is expected to handle mainly refrigerated and frozen produce, while Casablanca will export a broader spectrum of products including automotive parts, chemicals, packaging and construction materials. Samskip adds that, by shifting from road to sea, Moroccan exporters can reduce CO[2] emissions by up to 80% while benefiting from a faster, more predictable service.
