Caterpillar hits record $20B quarter while Corning targets $40B by 2030

Investors weighing Caterpillar against Corning are choosing between industrial infrastructure and technological innovation. Caterpillar, a construction and mining equipment manufacturer, generated $67.6 billion in revenue in FY 2025, up 4.3%, though net income fell to $8.9 billion from $10.8 billion the previous year. Corning, a materials science company supplying optical communications and display technologies, posted stronger growth. Its FY 2025 revenue reached $15.6 billion, up 19.1%, whilst net income surged to $1.6 billion from $506 million. The company secured a multi-billion-dollar supply agreement with AT&T extending through 2030. Caterpillar trades at a forward P/E of 30.0x versus Corning's 49.7x, reflecting Corning's faster growth trajectory. Corning's optical communications business grew over 30% year-over-year, driven by AI data centre demand, with ambitious revenue targets of $20 billion by end-2026 and $40 billion by 2030. Despite Caterpillar's record backlog and reliable dividend, Corning's AI infrastructure exposure offers more compelling growth potential for patient investors.

Fire Tablets are dead - Amazon announces new Alexa tablet lineup running Android.

Fire Tablets are dead - Amazon announces new Alexa tablet lineup running Android. Published 6 hours ago New designs, and Alexa+ built in Just as its leaving Android on its Fire TV sticks, Amazon is adopting Google's operating system for its newest generation of tablets, dousing its Fire OS - and moniker - after more than a decade. At the same time, Amazon's new tablets now prominently feature Alexa+ as a persistent widget that lives in the lower righthand corner of the devices, to be summoned at a moment's notice. In addition to receiving spoken or written queries, Alexa+ is also able to look at whatever is on the screen of the tablet, and act on your prompts. Latest Videos FromTom's Guide PIXEL 11 PRO FOLD HANDS ON For example, you might have a picture of a plant you've photographed on the screen; Alexa+ can look at the photo and tell you what it is. The other really clever feature on the new Alexa tablets is a "Kindle Mode" - open the Kindle app, and the tablet will silence notifications and change the display to a more Kindle-like experience, muting the colors and making it seem closer to an actual e-reader. Here's a rundown of the new tablets; there are five in all - three Amazon Alexa Tablets, and two Amazon Kids Tablets, aimed at younger audiences. Amazon Alexa Tablets. Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro. Amazon said it worked with Corning to create a photolithography process that helps preserve color and contrast while cutting down on glare. Tom's Guide: Direct to Your Inbox

[SMM PV flash] First Solar sues JA Solar and Corning subsidiary in US over TOPCon patent infringement. Published: Oct 05, 2026 17:27 (GMT+8) On October 1, US solar manufacturer First Solar filed a patent infringement lawsuit in a Delaware federal court against Chinese module manufacturer JA Solar and American Panel Solutions, a subsidiary of Corning. First Solar alleges that these companies engaged in the unauthorized use of its core patents related to the manufacturing of TOPCon crystalline silicon solar cells. As competition within the global PV supply chain intensifies, technical patent scrutiny targeting leading Chinese module makers expanding overseas is becoming stricter, which may bring uncertainties to their capacity expansion and sales in the North American market. Business leaders, NAM honor Corning CEO Wendell Weeks.

Business leaders, NAM honor Corning CEO Wendell Weeks. By NAM Newsroom October 1, 2026 More than 100 executives in manufacturing, technology, media and finance, among other fields, gathered to honor Wendell Weeks, chairman, president and CEO of Corning Incorporated, at the Yale CEO Caucus last week. * The caucus, a marquee gathering of U.S. business leaders, is helmed by Yale School of Management Professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, a leading authority in executive thought leadership. The event also featured wide-ranging discussions on artificial intelligence, China and the midterm elections, focusing on changing policy dynamics and the role of business leaders in navigating them. NAM on stage: As one of the award presenters, NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons praised Weeks - who has led Corning for more than 25 years - as a "titan of manufacturing." * Speaking alongside presenters Apple Executive Chairman and former CEO Tim Cook, Motorola Solutions Chair and CEO Greg Brown and Snap-on Chairman and CEO and NAM Tax and Finance Policy Vice Chair Nick Pinchuk, Timmons tied Weeks' leadership of the iconic, 175-year-old American brand to the vision and values that make manufacturing strong in a dynamic and evolving world. A pillar of manufacturing history: Timmons discussed Corning's long history of glass production and evolution across the decades, from contributing to innovations like Edison's lightbulb and the iPhone to producing the physical components powering America's AI leadership today. * Timmons said that Weeks takes the "long view," noting that Corning follows a 150-year plan that can adapt to new inventions and technologies. He pointed out that Corning is now a key player in the age of AI, producing "the optical fiber - the very arteries of the AI buildout" and partnering with such companies as NVIDIA. A standout leader: "Wendell, you are an inspiration to us all," Timmons said. "You help the 13 million people who make things in America stand taller. For all you have built - and for everything still to come - congratulations on this high honor." The word from Yale: "Wendell Weeks practices the rarest form of leadership at the rarest kind of company," said Sonnenfeld, senior associate dean for leadership studies and Lester Crown professor in the practice of leadership at the Yale School of Management. * "He is the steward of an iconic 175-year-old American institution - the firm that supplied the glass for Edison's lightbulb, made the glass for the first television tubes and in 1970 invented the low-loss optical fiber that now carries the world's information - and in his third decade at its helm, he has carried it to the very center of the AI revolution." * "Institutions with such iconic legacies seldom reinvent themselves to this extent, and Weeks' success is a singular story of how to balance innovation with legacy." A final note on leadership: In a ceremony at the end of the day, Sonnenfeld presented the inaugural Yale Patriot Public Service Award for Executive Leadership to former Vice President Mike Pence and the Yale Patriot Public Service Award for Legislative Leadership to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), recognizing them for transcending partisan roles during the events of Jan. 6, 2021 and standing up for the rule of law and the values that make America exceptional.
