Requirements
  • Anticipated enrollment at UT Austin as an undergraduate or graduate student during the academic year, with a minimum of 6 credit hours.
  • Maintain academic standards and a clean disciplinary record.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule for daytime, evening, and weekend work.
  • Have authorization to work in the United States of America.
  • Complete the mandated UT Outpost Student Leadership Board training of approximately 10 hours before the academic year begins.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings as determined by team availability.
  • Complete additional training sessions as needed.
  • Complete all required policy and procedural documentation.
  • Be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of UT Outpost, including opening, closing, and daily tasks.
  • Lead the UT Outpost student organization by holding organization meetings, creating an organizational culture, and delegating tasks to promote the growth of UT Outpost.
  • Manage the front desk, complete tasks, answer inquiries, and provide customer service.
  • Receive, log, and process donations to UT Outpost.
  • Train and lead student organization members and volunteers to assist with operations.
  • Log all donation and visitor data using Food Bank Management software.
  • Collaborate with student organizations, academic departments, and university partners on initiatives, projects, and events.
  • Prepare, pick up, and/or deliver items to satellite locations and other campus partners.
  • Educate the campus community about food insecurity and UT Outpost through tabling and events.
  • Learn about local resources to redirect and support visitors unable to shop at UT Outpost.
  • Assist with UT Outpost process updates as needed.
  • Work in compliance with university, departmental, and programmatic policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Complete and submit all required documentation within requested timeframes.
  • Maintain confidentiality except when university policy or law mandates a report.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure that UT Outpost and its team adhere to regulations and guidelines regarding professional clothing quality through training and regular closet audits.
  • Design and maintain an engaging store layout, including weekly updates to the Picks of the Week rack and dressing the mannequins.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students Communications Team to produce content for the career closet.
  • Manage cap and gown inventory and the checkout process, including training the Outpost team.
  • Establish partnerships with campus and community entities to facilitate consistent donations.
  • Ensure that UT Outpost operations are sustainable by promoting preservation of food and clothing resources.
  • Facilitate collaboration with campus organizations that support sustainable practices, including UT Microfarm, UT Farmstand, Trash to Treasure, and Zero Waste.
  • Oversee the hydroponic towers initiative with UT Farmstand, including ordering seeds and harvesting.
  • Pick up bi-weekly deliveries from the UT Farmstand market.
  • Track sustainable efforts for the yearly report, including food waste and recycling.
  • Maximize consumption of food items to reduce and eliminate food waste.
  • Commit to serving as a UT Outpost Board Member during the 2026 Fall Term and 2027 Spring Term.
  • Work up to 15 hours each week based on UT Outpost operating hours and class schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Attend weekly UT Outpost team meetings.
  • Complete four four-hour Saturday UT Outpost shifts each term.
  • Complete weeklong training during the week before the Fall semester begins.
Desired Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Ability to work in a team and provide meaningful contributions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Preferred possession of a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Experience with Macintosh computers and software, or ability to learn applications quickly, including Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Work-study status.
  • Other experience or skills relevant to the position.
