Meta to overtake SpaceX's $1.8T valuation before year-end despite trading at just $1.39T

Meta Platforms could surpass SpaceX's valuation before 2026 ends, despite currently being worth $1.39 trillion compared to SpaceX's $1.8 trillion. SpaceX's valuation has fluctuated significantly since going public two months ago, peaking at $2.6 trillion before falling to $1.4 trillion. The valuation gap appears illogical based on fundamentals. In Q2 2026, Meta generated $60.8 billion in revenue and $15.8 billion in net income. SpaceX, whilst growing faster at 92% year-over-year, only produced $7.8 billion in revenue with no net income. Meta trades at 17.5 times forward earnings, below the S&P 500's 21.4 times, suggesting the stock is undervalued. The company's 28% revenue growth and strong profitability position it well for appreciation, despite recent profit declines attributed to AI talent acquisition.

Nvidia lands SpaceXAI deal to power next-gen AI systems in orbit with Vera CPUs

Nvidia has announced that SpaceXAI will use its Vera CPUs to expand computing infrastructure for next-generation agentic applications. SpaceXAI, formerly xAI and now operating within SpaceX, plans to build additional capacity around Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform to support its Grok chatbot. The companies also intend to adapt the Vera Rubin NVL72 system for orbital computing through SpaceXAI's first-generation Starmind satellite. The partnership focuses on workloads where AI agents need to coordinate software tools, execute code, analyse information and run simulations between model interactions. SpaceXAI expects its infrastructure footprint to grow towards gigawatt-scale capacity. Nvidia said the common Vera Rubin architecture could allow the computing system to extend beyond conventional data centres and support future operations in space.

Cathie Wood pours $28M into SpaceX while offloading Roblox, Palantir and AMD

Cathie Wood's ARK Invest purchased approximately $28 million worth of SpaceX shares during the week of 17-21 August, making it the firm's largest purchase of the period. This came as ARK sold roughly $49 million of Roblox, $34.5 million of Palantir, and $31 million of AMD. SpaceX, which went public in June at $135 per share, reported second-quarter revenue that surged 92% year-over-year to $7.8 billion, driven by its Starlink satellite-internet network and AI investments. However, the company also reported quarterly capital expenditures of approximately $18.4 billion. The buying activity stands out given SpaceX's volatile post-IPO performance, with shares swinging sharply around earnings and lockup expirations, including 319 million shares becoming eligible for sale on 20 August.

SpaceX is hiring in natural gas trading for energy needs.

SpaceX is hiring in natural gas trading for energy needs. Elon Musk's SpaceX is actively seeking a trader to establish and lead a natural gas trading team, reflecting the company's escalating fuel and power requirements. The newly created role emphasizes both physical and financial aspects of natural gas trading, underscoring the significance of this energy source in facilitating SpaceX's ambitions in chipmaking and space exploration. Earlier this month, SpaceX announced plans to construct gas-fired power plants to meet the electricity demands of a large semiconductor manufacturing facility being developed in Texas, in collaboration with Tesla Inc. The growing energy consumption from data centers and new manufacturing sites has intensified the need for additional gas power plants, aligning with Musk's strategy of vertical integration. SpaceX also intends to develop its own natural gas pipelines and explore drilling for natural gas, according to statements made by Gwynne Shotwell, the company's president and COO, in June. These initiatives represent significant investments aimed at producing the propellant necessary for their rockets, particularly the Starship, which utilizes super-chilled methane - the primary component of natural gas - combined with liquid oxygen. Notably, other major technology firms, such as Meta and OpenAI, are also exploring power trading as their energy demands grow. The job posting for the SpaceX trading position indicates locations in Cape Canaveral, Florida, or Starbase, Texas, rather than traditional trading hubs, and excludes the option for remote work. SpaceX has not provided a statement regarding this announcement. Why this story matters: * Highlights SpaceX's strategic investment in energy solutions to support its technological ambitions. Key takeaway: * The establishment of a natural gas trading team signifies SpaceX's commitment to ensuring a reliable energy supply for its operational needs. Opposing viewpoint: * Concerns about increased fossil fuel reliance may conflict with sustainable energy goals within the tech industry.
