  • ARDMS certification is required.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • Basic computer knowledge is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology are required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for disease diagnosis and evaluation of organ malfunction.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Select appropriate ultrasound equipment according to examination specifications.
  • Explain tests to patients and instruct and assist them in assuming the required examination position.
  • Assess patients’ understanding of the examination process and informed consent.
  • Select transducers and adjust equipment controls according to the organ examined, depth of field, and test specifications.
  • Enter test data and patient information into the ultrasound equipment computer to maintain test-result records.
  • Move the transducer over the specified body area and observe the display screen to monitor the quality of the ultrasonic pattern.
  • Produce images of internal organs and record diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film.
  • Obtain permanent records of internal examinations by photographing displayed organ images or removing strip printouts.
  • Assess and evaluate changes in the patient’s condition during examinations and inform the physician.
  • Perform prescribed equipment quality-control checks.
  • Maintain accurate quality-control logs and service records.
  • Use all equipment properly and never operate equipment inconsistently with manufacturer instructions.
  • Understand contraindications and potential hazards associated with different examinations.
  • Apply knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of other departments.
  • Provide care appropriate to patients of all ages and conditions, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general populations.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree is preferred.
  • One year of radiologic or imaging experience is preferred.
  • Specific ultrasound experience and training are preferred.
  • Graduation from an American Medical Association-approved school of Radiologic Technology is preferred.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is preferred.
