The Director, Insights + Reporting will play a key role within the commercial partnerships team at Sony Music. Your role will be responsible for leading a team of cross-company analysts in utilizing data and research to influence strategic decision making across all aspects of the business.
This role & team will be tasked with creating and executing the next generation of reports, dashboards, and analyses to assess the performance of Sony Music’s diverse roster of artists and releases, understand artist audiences and identify key shifts in fan behavior. This team will work closely with other members of the broader Insights & Reporting team to provide critical analyses across US Commercial Partnerships, Global Digital Business and each of Sony Music’s US labels.
Reporting into the VP of the Insights & Reporting team, this is a great opportunity to help shape the evolution of a critical part of the business, impacting all levels of strategic decision making.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the on-going development + enhancement of multiple daily + weekly reports, tools, analyses + presentations provided across Sony Music’s US labels and corporate Sony Music teams
- Respond to a large volume of ad-hoc analytics & research requests across artists, fans, platforms and broader trends to answer business critical questions across consumer behavior, strategic partners and song/album releases.
- Mentor and develop a team of 4 direct reports in executing various analyses + reports across SME labels, SME artists + competitive releases
- Manage vendor relationships + maintain the suite of 3rd party analytics tools used by the team, ensuring we continue to have access to best-of-class offerings. This includes maintaining the ongoing development of proprietary research tools as well as help leading external special projects.
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy across all tools + reports, interacting with IT and other relevant teams to resolve any issues or gaps
Who you are:
- Minimum 7+ years of experience working with data, preferably within the music industry
- Significant expertise working with relational databases and writing complex SQL
- Extensive experience with Alteryx and data visualization tools such as Tableau
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills – ability to identify trends in large datasets, connect disparate data sources to tell a holistic story, display creativity in problem-solving, and generate new ideas
- Strong ability to communicate insights to label executives and key stakeholders – orally, in writing, and in presentations
- Possess a strong collaborative and “customer service” mentality to ensure the needs of labels and senior management are met in a timely and satisfactory manner

The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
