Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a human services field and 2–6 years of equivalent job experience, or a master's degree in a human services field and 1–3 years of equivalent job experience.
  • At least 1 year of direct clinical mental health or crisis intervention experience.
  • Competency in assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of patient growth and development, and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
  • Understanding of mental health regulations and procedures concerning patient rights and voluntary or involuntary admission status.
  • Skill in verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint when responding to agitation or violent behavior.
  • Competence in caring for agitated or violent patients who may require seclusion or restraints.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct intake assessments of patients presenting with mental health needs in the Emergency Department and/or Walk-In Center and recommend referrals to an appropriate level of care.
  • Interact with physicians, advanced practitioners, care teams, and behavioral health staff to facilitate referral decisions and placement, and coordinate with behavioral health colleagues on patient flow and appropriate placement issues.
  • Serve as a liaison for other hospital and network sites and support other patient-care areas' requests concerning patients with mental health needs when able.
  • Support utilization management by completing the pre-certification process for intakes and consults.
  • Monitor the therapeutic environment as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in a human services field is preferred.
  • Previous experience with case management, utilization review, and managed care models.
