Patient Access Specialist Certification must be obtained within one year of employment for employees hired after January 1, 2020; the employer provides this certification.
The position requires verifying patient demographic information, insurance plans, and eligibility.
The position requires addressing patients' communication needs and contacting interpreters when necessary.
The position requires collecting copayments, deductibles, and self-pay balances where permissible.
The position requires handling cash, checks, and credit card payments.
Responsibilities
Greet and direct all patients, visitors, and vendors, and maintain the visitor and vendor log.
Register patients for inpatient and outpatient services in person or by telephone.
Accurately enter patient demographic information and verify insurance plans and eligibility at each patient visit in hospital and clinic settings.
Identify patients' communication needs, contact an interpreter when necessary, and maintain the iPad checkout process.
Complete forms, obtain signatures, and scan documents into records for inpatients and outpatients, including Consent for Treatment and Important Message from Medicare forms.
Document and reconcile payments collected at the end of the shift and send cash payments to the Billing Department.
Answer a multiline computer-based switchboard telephone, respond to inquiries, direct callers to appropriate personnel, and take and communicate messages.
Regulate overhead paging and act as the control center for codes by announcing codes and directing staff during emergency situations, including weather warnings and bomb threats.
Scan documents, order supplies, distribute faxes, direct patients and visitors, screen salespeople, sign for packages, reserve meeting rooms electronically, and monitor the maintenance and upkeep of office machinery.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Three to six months of previous customer service experience.
Previous healthcare experience, including medical terminology and cash handling.

POSITION SPECIFICS
Title: Patient Services Representative
FTE: .75 (60 hours per 2-week pay period)
Schedule: Mon 8:30am to 5:00pm; Wed 9:30am to 5:00pm; Thur 8:00am to 4:00pm; Fri 8:00am to 4:00pm

Float: Based in River Valley Clinic as primary location; will also need to float to Wisconsin Heights, Plain and Lodi Clinics
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for greeting and helping direct all patients, visitors and vendors, registering patients for inpatient or outpatient services and answering a multiline telephone. Registration may occur via telephone prior to the patient’s visit or in person in a hospital/clinic setting.
