Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in food science, chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical engineering, or a related field is required.
  • At least 4 years of experience in dietary supplements or a related field is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret standard operating procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with multiple departments and people at various skill levels.
  • Ability to deal with complex problems involving many variables.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including algebra.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of the nutraceutical industry and ingredients, including their usage, forms, activities, and relevant characteristics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and advanced Excel skills.
Responsibilities
  • Lead qualification of alternate raw materials, ingredients, and components through technical evaluation, vendor documentation review, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Execute compliance-driven, supply-driven, and optimization-driven reformulations while ensuring nutritional accuracy, regulatory alignment, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct impact assessments for formulation or material changes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to troubleshoot material variability and manufacturability challenges.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to address deviations, non-conformances, and specification gaps, and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Support technology transfers by preparing documentation, coordinating cross-functional alignment, and ensuring formulas and specifications are ready for scale-up or site changes.
  • Develop, refine, and maintain ingredient, component, and finished-product specifications.
  • Manage change submissions, document revisions, and approval workflows within product lifecycle management and related systems.
  • Ensure documentation integrity and traceability across business-sustaining activities.
  • Identify and implement improvements to documentation workflows, qualification processes, and cross-functional communication.
  • Maintain and enhance product-development systems and databases to support sustaining operations.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between Product Development Engineering, new-product-development formulators, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, and Strategic Sourcing.
  • Provide structured follow-up and project coordination to ensure sustaining initiatives progress on schedule.
  • Own the technical stewardship of the existing product portfolio, including compliance, manufacturability, cost effectiveness, and alignment with brand standards.
  • Resolve technical issues, optimize existing formulas, and maintain documentation rigor across sustaining activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of food and supplement regulations, including the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and 21 CFR 111.
  • Ability to objectively review primary and secondary scientific literature to support ingredient or product efficacy and safety.
