Forbes' top editor ousted after taking $6M 'gift' from magazine partner

Forbes has fired its chief content officer Randall Lane after he accepted approximately $6 million from one of the magazine's partners without disclosure, according to The New York Times. Lane acknowledged his error in a statement, saying he should have disclosed the gift and calling it "a serious error in judgement". He said he deeply regretted losing "the job and team I love". The payment reportedly came from RJ Shook, founder of Shook Research, a company Forbes partners with to publish wealth adviser rankings. Forbes' staff guidelines prohibit employees from personally benefiting from the firm's business dealings and require permission for outside business activities. Executive editor Kerry Lauerman is overseeing editorial operations whilst Forbes searches for a permanent replacement.

Philip Morris ranks 4th on Forbes' Net Zero Leaders list, targets 2040 emissions goal

Philip Morris International has been included in Forbes' 2026 Net Zero Leaders list, ranking first in the fast-moving consumer goods category and fourth overall. The list recognises US publicly listed companies best positioned to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 based on measurable performance. PMI remains committed to reaching net zero by 2040, a decade earlier than most companies. Forbes evaluated firms using data from Sustainalytics and Morningstar, assessing governance, risk management, strategy and decarbonisation metrics across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. Recent milestones include launching its Value Plan 2030+, publishing an updated Climate Transition Plan and continued progress towards science-based decarbonisation targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. PMI's smoke-free products accounted for 43% of its first-quarter 2026 total net revenues.

Eric Trump calls Forbes 'Chinese propaganda' after $500M American Bitcoin shareholder loss report

Eric Trump has accused Forbes of being "Chinese propaganda" after the magazine published an investigation claiming his company American Bitcoin has wiped out roughly $500 million in retail shareholder value since going public. Forbes alleged that American Bitcoin operates as an arbitrage vehicle selling inflated shares to buy BTC, with its market capitalisation crashing 92% from a $13.2 billion peak to about $1.24 billion. The publication also claimed the company's all-in cost per Bitcoin is near $90,000, well above the $57,000 figure Trump cites. Trump defended the venture by highlighting Q4 revenue of $78.3 million and a treasury holding over 7,000 Bitcoin, making it the 16th largest public Bitcoin holder. American Bitcoin went public via a Hut 8 merger in September, but shares have dropped over 90% since debut.

Forbes launches ForbesPredict, a moneyless prediction platform to deepen audience engagement

Forbes has launched ForbesPredict, a moneyless prediction platform developed with Axiom, where users build profiles by logging predictions on real-world events without trading currency. The platform aims to deepen audience engagement as Forbes shifts away from traffic-based metrics towards loyalty and participation. Unlike mainstream prediction platforms such as Kalshi, ForbesPredict requires users to digest and interpret news coverage to make informed predictions, creating a record of correct and incorrect forecasts. "AI is fundamentally changing how people access information," said Nina Gould, Forbes' chief innovation officer. "Our response isn't to chase scale, but to deepen engagement." The platform will provide Forbes with insights into audience preferences whilst encouraging users to return and participate rather than simply consume headlines. Forbes maintains its readers seek information, not speculation.
