Huntington Bank announces investments in United Housing, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis to support families and future growth.

Huntington Bank announces investments in United Housing, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis to support families and future growth. Sep 30, 2026, 10:00 ET MEMPHIS, Tenn., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - The Huntington National Bank (Huntington) today announced $300,000 in community investments from the Huntington Bank Community Foundation supporting affordable housing, financial education and career readiness in Memphis. The commitment includes a $250,000, multi-year investment in United Housing to expand access to affordable housing opportunities for Memphis-area families and a $50,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis to support workforce readiness programming for local youth. "We believe in Memphis and the people here, and when we invest in housing, workforce readiness and local partnerships, we're investing in the future of Memphis," said Brian Walhood, Huntington Mid-South regional president. "United Housing and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis are doing the kind of work that helps families build stability, opens doors for young people and strengthens the community we are proud to be part of." The $250,000 three-year commitment to United Housing will support programs serving individuals and families earning less than 80% of the area's median family income. Funding will help provide down payment and closing cost assistance, along with homebuyer education and counseling services designed to help more families become homeowners. United Housing provides quality housing opportunities to residents through financial coaching, mortgage lending, homebuilding and renovations, and partnerships that help strengthen neighborhoods and increase access to affordable housing. In its most recent annual reporting period, the organization assisted nearly 800 individuals and families. "United Housing's mission is to serve those underserved by the traditional mortgage market," said Amy Schaftlein, executive director, United Housing. "We help families realize their dream of homeownership through our education and financing programs. This investment from the Huntington Bank Community Foundation will allow us to serve hundreds of more families with financial coaching and credit counseling and give wealth-building opportunities to first-generation homebuyers." Huntington Bank Community Foundation's investment represents its commitment to making people's lives better and strengthening the communities it serves. It builds on years of partnership between United Housing and Cadence Bank, which became part of Huntington when the combination was completed in February 2026. Bank colleagues are involved with United Housing through program sponsorships, volunteering, board service and first-time homebuyer education and seminars. Huntington's commitment to affordable housing is a core pillar in its broader community development strategy. Across its markets, the bank makes investments in affordable housing developments and works with local partners to connect families with programs, products, tools and resources to help them prepare for homeownership and build long-term financial stability. Huntington Bank Community Foundation is also investing in the future workforce through a $50,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis. The funding will support the Juice Plus+ Technical Training Center, a dedicated after-school learning and training facility where young people build technical and life skills through direct instruction in culinary arts, logistics, automotive technology, welding and IT, as well as interview techniques, personal goal setting, money management and customer service. "Growing up, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Memphis was an integral part of my life that ultimately helped me to become successful," said Shannon A. Brown, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis board member and chief executive officer of Action Logics. Brown retired from FedEx Express as senior vice president, eastern division of U.S. operations, and chief diversity officer. He also is a retired Cadence Bank board director. "My experience with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Memphis shaped me in foundational ways. It taught me confidence. It gave me the belief that my dreams were possible. And it instilled in me a deep respect for my work and for the people who helped me get to where I am today." The grant builds on the bank's longstanding partnership with the organization and the Juice Plus+ Technical Training Center, including financial literacy classes and the Money Matters program at the Center, and will help fund industry-recognized certifications for students participating in workforce development pathways. Bank leaders and colleagues have supported the organization through local board and committee leadership, colleague volunteerism at club events, annual fundraising efforts and hands-on involvement in activities that support the club's operations and initiatives across the region. Published Sep 28, 2026 12:16 PM EDT Gesher Human Services teamed up with Huntington Bank. They're running a free virtual program for metro Detroit residents with credit scores at 600 or below. Finish the Home Credit Initiative, and you get $750 to knock down debt. The 4-week program runs each Thursday in October. It starts on the 8th, then continues through the 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Sessions happen from noon to 1 p.m. All meetings are online. Detroit came in last among 182 U.S. cities when WalletHub checked credit scores. The city's average sits at 570, according to ClickOnDetroit. Chicago averages 630. Grand Rapids averages 634. That's a big difference showing just how far behind Detroit falls when compared to other cities nearby. The best possible credit score is 800. More people swipe credit cards now to cover bills as prices climb. This squeeze has driven many residents to seek help fixing their credit problems. Lower credit scores can impact interest rates, employment, insurance, and more. The program teaches how credit scores are calculated and what goes into them. Want in? Check the Gesher Human Services website. They've spent years helping families and individuals tackle money troubles. If spots fill up, they have a waiting list for the future.
