Requirements
  • Master's degree required; An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canvas.
  • Stamina to teach class, and the ability to stand or sit for extended time periods; Regular attendance is necessary.
  • General office or classroom conditions and related work environment considerations are to be expected in this role.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars in Game Design and related areas.
  • Teach courses related to Game Design and Development, including introductory to advanced coursework in game mechanics, storytelling, game art, level design, and production processes.
  • Provide clear communication of learning goals and assessment methods, organize course sessions, and ensure learning is engaging and applicable.
  • Develop adaptive thinking and problem-solving skills in students by using illustrative examples and encouraging questions.
  • Provide useful feedback on tests or assignments and use assessment results to tailor extra help or extended learning opportunities.
  • Establish a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment and enforce university policies.
  • Distribute the syllabus at the first class meeting and follow the established course schedule, providing notice of substantial changes as needed.
  • Ensure use of required course texts and provide timely assistance to students with assignments and assessments.
  • Administer an exam or evaluative activity during the scheduled final exam time and determine final grades per the syllabus.
  • Engage in mentoring activities including promoting volunteer opportunities, student research, resume-building, leadership opportunities, and connection to university resources.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and complete any additional dean-requested duties.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and creative endeavors contributing to the university's academic mission.
  • Supervise laboratories, independent study activities, and off-campus learning such as practicums and internships.
  • Participate in shared governance and university events and initiatives, and recruit for programs.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness and team-oriented collaboration with students, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Design, develop, and teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars; perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software and game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable.
  • Experience in academic advising, program design, and student mentoring may be relevant and desirable but not required.
