Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or develop and execute unusually complex projects having a substantial mix of optical, electrical, mechanical, physics, algorithms and software design, which are leading edge of system functionality or technology; spearhead research and development of new technologies as appropriate; and work with Marketing to insure the meet market requirement specifications (MRS) is valid and attainable.
  • Use systems analysis to create a diagram in order to review specifications, influence product engineering and software to utilize system engineering concepts for new, unusually complex designs and ongoing engineering improvements, and supervise tests.
  • Interface with other business units to workout design, systems architecture development and integration issues by utilizing concepts from other business units or influencing other business units to utilize concepts.
  • Problem identification and troubleshooting unusually complex engineering problems, which are on leading edge of technology or system functionality.
  • Review system engineering test results and architecture development ideas. Influence and communicate change in adjusting design direction as necessary.
  • Support System Integration during the assembly and final testing of new product designs.
  • Work with vendors to develop new competitive products. Takes business issues and architecture development findings into consideration, and works to gain acceptance and use across business units. Develop metrics that aid in the decision making for future business opportunities
  • Develop and assure that the requirements of the systems architecture development process are met.
  • Originates, develops and executes the most complex technical projects and influences future technology and product strategy. Works on critical complex issues that impact longer term product development and business success measured by two or more of the following: incremental revenue growth, market share increases, key customer penetrations, time to market improvement and commercial value of the work.
  • Within safety guidelines originate, design, perform, collect data, analyze and compile reports on unusually complex engineering experiments and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
  • Develop innovative solutions as part of proven track record of significant technology contributions. Widely recognized internally (across Business Units) as one of the company's top experts in their field.
  • Conceive and implement new technology, normally named as primary inventor on numerous critical patents and recognized through awards and/or published papers within the last five years. Decisions impact major product development programs and business success at the division/segment level.
  • Leads through contribution to the development of new principles and concepts. As a technical role model to Applied's technical and engineering community, this position acts as a mentor to guide less experienced engineers. Typically is involved in judging the approach and verifying the validity of technical strategies
  • Deep subject matter expert who consults with management and customers on exceptionally complex technical issues. Viewed as a company resource for specific technology and interacts with the engineering community internally and externally, based on business need. Represents Applied on industry boards/consortia, seen as a thought leader in area of expertise, regarded by customers and external leaders as an expert and thought leader in their field.
