Requirements
  • Must be an M.D. or D.O. who is board certified or board eligible in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.
  • Have strong general knowledge in surgical pathology, including intraoperative evaluations, and pathology subspecialties including hematopathology, anatomic pathology, and laboratory medicine, according to assignment.
  • Have the ability to enhance communication and relations in a diverse professional workforce.
  • Have experience with methods, tools, and measurements for quality improvement to improve work processes using a team-based model.
  • Have knowledge of the regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA.
  • Have the ability to work independently and make reliable recommendations and definitive diagnoses in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Have knowledge of hospital and service procedures and policies regarding hazardous material management, biohazard exposure, and the use of universal precautions.
Responsibilities
  • Provide patient care services at University of Miami Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, satellites, Sylvester Cancer Comprehensive Center, and satellites, focused on the assigned specialty or specialties.
  • Provide gross descriptions, take photographs of specimens when indicated, perform tissue sampling and microscopic examinations of surgical specimens, report findings, and verify coded diagnoses in the computer in a timely manner when applicable.
  • Perform frozen-section diagnoses in a timely manner when applicable.
  • Perform and report autopsies in a timely manner when applicable.
  • Provide 24-hour call coverage according to assigned divisions when applicable.
  • Perform service productivity duties according to the departmental compensation plan approved by the UHealth Compensation Committee.
  • Participate in educational activities for pathology residents and fellows.
  • Participate in educational activities for medical students.
  • Participate in daily quality assurance activities and in Department of Pathology hospital committees and working groups.
  • Maintain high standards of professional services so that the Department of Pathology maintains JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA accreditation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional board certifications are desirable.
  • Participate in collaborative research opportunities to pursue basic, clinical, or applied research, collaborate with other investigators throughout the Medical Center, and seek sponsored program funding from grants and contracts.
