Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Prior experience and success working in a customer service-focused environment is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with internal and external customers.
  • The ability to think critically and listen with intent to understand is required.
  • The ability to adapt behavior based on constructive feedback to improve job performance is required.
  • Proficiency in problem solving and the ability to prioritize accordingly are required.
  • Microsoft Office experience is required, along with the ability to talk and type simultaneously, balance keyboard accuracy with speed, correctly transmit data, and work efficiently while providing customer service.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are required.
  • The ability to assume responsibility, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate accountability is required.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours and shifts between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. is required; weekend and holiday shifts may occasionally be required.
  • The ability and willingness to meet customers face to face at alternate locations when business needs require is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service when responding to customers and de-escalate customers as needed.
  • Relay accurate and up-to-date information on policies and procedures and communicate successful resolutions to inquiries.
  • Document all calls accurately and promptly.
  • Escalate issues to appropriate resources according to policy and procedure guides.
  • Meet or exceed quality, productivity, accuracy, and call identification goals established by departmental policy.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of Independent Health contracts and benefits and working knowledge of policies, procedures, and updates.
  • Attend required training sessions, including remote and on-site learning.
  • Document pertinent customer information in appropriate systems to provide accurate information and meet regulatory agency standards.
  • Use multiple systems and tools to obtain information related to claims, enrollment, authorizations, finance, accounts receivable, reference screens, and providers.
  • Determine claim status and whether claims were adjudicated properly, and make claim adjustments using established criteria.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous call center experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CPT codes, ICD-9 coding, and medical terminology is preferred.
