Hillman and FC Cincinnati host second annual Trade School Discovery Day to introduce local students to skilled-trade careers. Greater Cincinnati students gained hands-on experience across a variety of trades as the region works to strengthen its skilled workforce pipeline. CINCINNATI, Oct. 23, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Hillman Solutions Corp. (Nasdaq: HLMN) ("Hillman"), a leading provider of hardware and related products, partnered with FC Cincinnati to host the second annual Trade School Discovery Day at TQL Stadium. The event brought together approximately over 100 students from Cincinnati Public Schools and Winton Woods City School District for a day of hands-on career exploration, introducing them to opportunities in the skilled trades and connecting them with local industry professionals. The event comes at a time of significant opportunity and need within the region's skilled trades. According to the Associated General Contractors of America, construction employment in the Cincinnati metro area grew by 11% between June 2024 and June 2025, adding 5,800 jobs and bringing total construction employment to approximately 60,000 workers. Despite that growth, the Workforce Council of Southwest Ohio (the "Council") reported in June of 2026 that the local construction industry continues to face a persistent gap between demand for workers and the number of people entering and remaining in these careers. The Council identified limited access to hands-on learning and unclear pathways from school to employment among the challenges affecting the region's talent pipeline. The Trade School Discovery Day aims to help address these challenges by exposing students to potential career pathways and providing opportunities to learn directly from professionals working in these industries. Throughout the day, students participated in interactive sessions and hands-on demonstrations led by local skilled-trade professionals and community partners, including: * Construction: The Hillman Group, DWK Construction and 50 Grit Flooring * Roofing and Restoration: American Home Tech * Automotive: Jeff Wyler Automotive Family * Culinary: Levy, FC Cincinnati's food partner * Plumbing: Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup "At Hillman, our mission is to empower those who fix, build and create, and that includes helping inspire the next generation of professionals," said Lauren Edwards, Vice President of Marketing at The Hillman Group. "As demand for skilled workers continues to grow, it's important that young people understand the rewarding career paths available to them. Through our partnership with FC Cincinnati and the support of local trade professionals, we're proud to provide hands-on experiences that help students discover new possibilities for their futures." "FC Cincinnati is proud to partner with Hillman on Trade School Discovery Day and help young people across our community explore the many opportunities available to them," said Kate Solomon, Chief Youth and Community Officer. "TQL Stadium is a place where we want young people to be inspired, whether that's through soccer or experiences like this that can open their eyes to a future they may not have considered. We're grateful to Hillman and all of the participating organizations for investing their time and expertise in the next generation of Cincinnati's workforce." Now in its second year, Trade School Discovery Day reflects Hillman and FC Cincinnati's shared commitment to investing in the Greater Cincinnati community and helping build a stronger workforce for the future. Manchester United paid millions for him, now Malacia starts again in MLS. 17. September 2026 Former Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has reportedly agreed to join FC Cincinnati after initially arriving at the MLS club on trial. Tyrell Malacia is set to continue his career in Major League Soccer after reaching an agreement with FC Cincinnati. The 27-year-old Dutch defender initially joined Cincinnati's training sessions as a trialist. Journalist Laurel Pfahler shared footage of him working with the squad and reported that both parties were assessing whether a permanent partnership made sense. That assessment appears to have produced a quick decision. Dutch outlet Voetbal International reports that Malacia has agreed to a contract running until the middle of 2027, with an option for another season. FC Cincinnati have yet to announce the signing officially. Malacia had been without a club since his contract with Manchester United expired at the end of June. United confirmed before the conclusion of last season that they would not activate an extension. The left-back arrived at Old Trafford from Feyenoord in July 2022. United paid an initial fee of around £13 million, with a further £1.7 million included in potential bonuses. Malacia made 39 appearances across all competitions during his first season and initially appeared ready to provide long-term competition at left-back. A serious knee injury then changed the direction of his career. Malacia required two operations and spent 17 months on the sidelines. He missed 72 matches between May 2023 and November 2024. His return came against Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League after 550 days without senior football. He struggled to regain his previous position in the United squad. United sent him to PSV Eindhoven on loan in February 2025. Malacia made 12 first-team appearances during his spell in the Netherlands before returning to Manchester. He remained part of United's squad last season, but played only 15 minutes of senior football. His four-year association with the club ended in the summer. Reports claim Malacia also attracted interest from clubs in Spain, Brazil and the Middle East. He has chosen MLS, where regular football would allow him to rebuild his career. The defender also wants to force his way back into the Netherlands national team. A conversation with Dutch football director Nigel de Jong reportedly revived his ambition to return to international football. A meeting with Lionel Messi is already on the schedule. Cincinnati visit Inter Miami in October, offering Malacia an early high-profile test in his new league.
Racing Louisville fans react to report club could be sold. PUBLISHED 10:41 AM ET Sep. 12, 2026 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The future of Racing Louisville FC in Louisville is uncertain after an ESPN report said the club is exploring options that could include selling the National Women's Soccer League team. The report has raised concerns among fans who have supported the team at Lynn Family Stadium since its inaugural season in 2021. "I think it would be a huge loss for us to have this beautiful stadium and then lose the team," said Breanna Ferguson, a Racing Louisville season ticket holder who has played soccer since she was a child. Ferguson said she would be "incredibly disappointed" if the team left Louisville. "I've followed them so closely through ups and downs," she said, pointing to the club's early Women's Cup win and roster changes that included trading away fan-favorite players. Racing Louisville plays at Lynn Family Stadium, which can hold more than 15,000 fans. ESPN reported the team has averaged about 5,500 fans per game. Ferguson said attendance has fluctuated as the team's roster has changed. "As we trade people away, you'll see that attendance drop, and then people get excited again and people will start coming out," she said. Other fans said they are also worried about the possibility of a move, though some said they would continue supporting the club. "It's a little disheartening to know that they might move," said Luke Upchurch, who drives about an hour and a half from Northern Kentucky for games. "But frankly, we drive from Northern Kentucky to come down here and see it." ESPN reported there is buzz that FC Cincinnati is interested in purchasing Racing Louisville. Spectrum News 1 reached out to Racing Louisville FC. It has not responded. Meanwhile, FC Cincinnati shared this statement in part: "Cincinnati has proven to be a passionate soccer city, and we are excited by the possibilities to further support the women's game in our community. While there is nothing specific to comment on today, our commitment to advancing the sport remains strong."
Meet FC Cincinnati's new defensive acquisitions, Douděra and Malatini. Cincinnati Enquirer Sept. 3, 2026, 4:12 p.m. ET * FC Cincinnati has acquired Czech midfielder David Douděra and Argentine defender Julián Malatini. * Both players were signed to help improve the team's defense, which is ranked third-worst in MLS for goals conceded. * Douděra joins on a contract through the 2027-28 season, while Malatini arrives on loan through June 2027. * General Manager Chris Albright confirmed the club rejected transfer bids for forward Kevin Denkey. FC Cincinnati has made official the acquisitions of Czech midfielder David Douděra and Argentine defender Julián Malatini as the MLS summer transfer window closed Sept. 3. Douděra, 28, from SK Slavia Prague of the Czech First League, will join the Orange and Blue on a contract through the 2027-28 Major League Soccer season with an option for the 2028-29 season. Malatini, 25, joins the club on loan from SV Werder Bremen of the German Bundesliga through June 2027 with the option to make the move a permanent transfer. He will occupy an International Roster Slot. Both must complete paperwork to receive a P-1 Visa, which will take at least two weeks. Neither is likely to play in the team's next three games through Sept. 12, but could be in training and available for the Sept. 19 match at Houston. They will be in constant contact with the coaching staff in the meantime. Both players are tasked with helping a defense that is third-worst in MLS in goals conceded (51). They have extensive experience playing in the European Champions League and in the European pro leagues. General Manager Chris Albright said defense has been the priority during the transfer window, as he and the coaching staff feel the deep and diverse attacking group didn't need any additions. Cincy is second in MLS in goals scored with 49. "I think we have enough offensive talent," Albright said Sept. 3. "We looked at opportunities and, frankly, we thought it was, in some ways, unfair to bring in someone to kind of drop on top of those guys that had a lot of production." Although the transfer window is now closed, Cincinnati can still sign unattached free agents, and Albright hopes to add one or two new players through that route. Julián Malatini adds a key piece at center back for FC Cincinnati. Malatini brings three seasons of Bundesliga experience to Cincinnati. The 6-foot-3-inch center back scored twice in 32 career top-flight league appearances with Werder Bremen. Malatini trained on several occasions with Argentine Youth National Teams and was part of the Argentina U-23 Youth National Team training for the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament before exiting to join Werder Bremen. Malatini has had several injuries in recent years, including ankle surgery in the spring, but he was available off the bench for Bremen's season opener Aug. 30. "With Julian, we feel good," Albright said. "We have his physical data from training. He is a high-level athlete. Bundesliga experience at 25 years old with those athletic traits. So we really don't have concern about the injuries." Albright said the club looked at over 300 center backs. "Center back was a need. Clearly, we're not doing a good enough job defensively," he said. "And so the addition of Julian, we're excited about. Pedigree-wise, Argentina U23s then have Bundesliga experience at 25, and be physically, athletically what we look for. And most importantly, he's a worker. He's a winner. He's learned German and English, and he's a bright kid that wants to get better. And we think his ceiling is not close to being reached." David Douděra is a potential starter on the wings for FC Cincinnati. Douděra, 28, has made nearly 350 professional appearances in Europe over the past 10 seasons. He was named to the Czech National Team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and started in their match against Mexico. Douděra has scored 24 goals in 153 career appearances for Slavia Prague since joining the Czech giants ahead of the 2022-23 season. Douděra and the Red and Whites won the Czech First League each of the past two seasons. Douděra played in seven of Slavia Prague's eight 2025-26 Champions League matches last season. Douděra and new teammate and countryman Pavel Bucha have shared the field six times at the national-team level, twice for the Czechia U20s and three times for the U21s. Most recently, both started for the Czech National Team in their friendly on May 31 against Kosovo. With Douděra playing wingback, Albright said he should upgrade the defensive strength at that position. Bucha has been starting at right wingback a lot this season but is a more natural central midfielder on the inside. "Lovely kid, a worker, a winner, works great," Albright said. "Pavel, who knows him very well, says 'I'm competitive, but David's at a different level.' So hearing that from Pavel is really comforting. Player with a ton of experience, Champions League experience, World Cup experience. So we think those two pieces can kind of maybe shore up some of the leaks in the back." Albright said he has a lot of defensive abilities on the outside. "He's able to defend forward like we like to do and anticipate plays in midfield," Albright said. "He can be dominant in the air. He can run and he can run at a good rate. I think he's got room to grow on the ball and I think he would tell you the same." FC Cincinnati is still aiming to win trophies in 2026. Cincinnati's 4-0 loss at Nashville Aug. 29 virtually ended any slim hopes the team had at winning the Supporters' Shield this season. The up-and-down season the club has had (8-7-7, 31 points) is a setback from the 2023 Supporters' Shield championship season, and 2025, when Cincy finished a point shy of the trophy. And the club has had disappointing exits from the Concacaf Champions Cup and Leagues Cup tournaments this year. But Albright said the team is capable of winning the MLS Cup championship. Cincy is sixth in the Eastern Conference, currently in solid playoff position, and Albright said the team can make a playoff run. "My job, where I sit, is to put us in contention, put us in a playoff position to hopefully be to contend for MLS Cup," Albright said. "We've set really high expectations and Nashville is having a season like we had in our Supporters' Shield season. That being said, we didn't win an MLS Cup that season. So the playoffs present a different opportunity." What the future holds for FC Cincinnati. Albright acknowledged rumors that two European clubs, Hull City of the English Premier League and Real Betis of Spain's La Liga, put in bids for forward Kevin Denkey during the transfer window. He said the club rejected those bids, and he was in communication with potential replacements to bring in if necessary. "We spent a lot of money for Kevin," Albright said. "He's been very productive for us. I think he can be more productive. I think he thinks he can be more productive. (We told him): Come trust us and we're going to put you in a better place. That also has to meet FC Cincinnati's financial valuation and it just didn't. We were ready and willing because I think that's a really good place for Kevin to go, to the Premier League or a Champions League club, and I think it's a testament to how people see him. But ultimately it's got to work for all parties and it didn't work for us. We're happy that we have Kevin and we're going to go try to compete for a championship." He also acknowledged rumors that MLS club Austin FC had recruited him to be their new general manager, but he wasn't interested. "It's always flattering to have interest, no different than our players when they have interest from abroad," Albright said. "That being said, I'm really proud of what we built here at FC Cincinnati. I continue to be focused on winning with FC Cincinnati now and in the future. Really proud of the trust that I have in ownership and ownership has in me." MLS will have a lot of changes in 2027, led by incoming commissioner Larry Berg. MLS will have a 14-game sprint season with playoffs in the first half of the year before shifting to a permanent fall-to-spring season calendar later in the year. "The sprint season will present a different challenge as to how we manage the roster for that short amount of time and then the transition into the new schedule," Albright said. "But we're constantly addressing things with an eye to the future. Not going to give away any l secrets, but we feel comfortable going into 2027."
