Requirements
  • Currently registered as a Registered Practical Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse with the applicable provincial professional regulatory body and competent to perform skills within the scope of practice.
  • Have a minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience, preferably in a retirement residence.
  • Have experience developing service plans to provide the best quality of care to residents.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations, acts, program standards, and other pertinent provincial legislation.
  • Provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, completed within the last six months, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence and critical thinking to assess and make decisions on complex care scenarios.
  • Have effective oral and written communication skills, emotional support skills, attention to detail, time management, adaptability, technical proficiency, ethical conduct, confidentiality, and the ability to advocate for residents' rights and needs.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and guide the daily operations of the nursing department.
  • Work on the floor while developing staff-management skills under the leadership of the Health and Wellness Manager.
  • Participate in Care Conferences and engage with residents and their families to address issues and concerns.
  • Share responsibility for recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating clinical team members.
  • Apply the disciplinary process in conjunction with the Health and Wellness Manager and Executive Director.
  • Oversee and assess resident-care staff compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and proper work practices.
  • Adhere to relevant provincial and federal acts and regulations, including the Health Disciplines Act, Human Rights Code, and College of Nurses Standards.
