Pernod Ricard trades at 14.1x earnings after a 59% five-year slide, below peers

Pernod Ricard's shares have fallen 59.4% over five years, yet the stock now trades on about 14.1 times earnings. That is below the beverage industry average of roughly 16.7 and a peer group closer to 22.7. A modelled fair price-to-earnings ratio sits above the current level, implying the market has discounted the shares. Recent news includes resilient overall sales, strong momentum in India, and preparation for a possible listing of the Indian unit. Views are split. The bull case puts the stock 16% undervalued, citing India growth and margin-boosting portfolio shifts after the Imperial Blue disposal. The bear case calls it 13% overvalued. It points to a 4% decline in organic net sales and notes that a €1 billion efficiency programme, with €500 million delivered, may only offset revenue and margin pressure.

Pernod Ricard said investor reception was positive. It will use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, including a tender offer on seven existing note series maturing between September 2027 and November 2032. Pernod Ricard Q1 sales fall 0.9% to $2.4B as US and China inventory cuts bite

Pernod Ricard reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 net sales of €2,234m on October 15, 2026. Organic sales fell 0.9%, while reported sales dropped 6.3%, hit by the disposal of Imperial Blue and Wines and by currency moves. Sales fell 10% in the US and 25% in China, both affected by inventory adjustments. Excluding those two markets, sales grew 4%. India rose 19%, and volumes overall grew 6%. The company expects broadly stable organic net sales for the full year. It aims for average organic growth near the lower end of a 3% to 6% range over fiscal 2027 to 2029, and a net debt to EBITDA ratio below 3x by fiscal 2029. It is also preparing for a potential IPO of its Indian business, subject to board approval.

Pernod Ricard warns US sales slump will drag growth to lower end of 3-6% target despite India boom

Pernod Ricard, the French distiller behind Jameson and Absolut vodka, reported sales of €9.4 billion for the 12 months through June, down 14% from the previous year. The company warned that continued weakness in the US spirits market will keep sales growth at the lower end of its 3%-6% annual target over the next three years. Sharp declines in the US and China dragged overall performance, though India showed strong growth. The company said American consumers face economic pressures and subdued confidence, whilst China's cognac sales have been hit by drinking restrictions on public officials. Pernod is cutting €1 billion in costs by 2028 and expanding ready-to-drink products to attract younger consumers. Shares fell over 7% following the announcement.
