Requirements
  • Nurse Practitioner candidates must hold an MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS degree in nursing.
  • Physician Assistant candidates must graduate from an accredited physician assistant program.
  • Nurse Practitioner candidates must hold an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in Florida and, for applicants after July 1, 2006, national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
  • Physician Assistant candidates must maintain current physician assistant licensure in Florida.
  • Candidates must maintain current Basic Life Support certification or healthcare certification as applicable.
  • Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Department setting, including at least 2 years as an Advanced Practice Provider in an urgent care setting.
  • Candidates must be competent working independently.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness and support health promotion and disease prevention with a high degree of independence.
  • Perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for medical and surgical problems and prescribe necessary treatment and services.
  • Provide patient care with minimal physician supervision.
  • Teach students, residents, and interns complex techniques and procedures unique to the clinical setting.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care across the continuum.
  • Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
  • Write or dictate reports and progress notes in the medical record.
  • Recognize deviations from normal physical assessment findings and collaborate on treatment plans.
  • Implement management based on laboratory results, physical assessments, diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and admission and discharge care.
  • Perform and document detailed histories and physical examinations, inpatient histories and physicals, discharge summaries, and clinical documentation subject to supervising medical staff review.
  • Initiate actions that facilitate therapeutic plans consistent with patients’ continuing healthcare needs.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to patients.
  • Provide a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Apply knowledge of legal issues and patients’ rights.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care issues to improve patient care.
  • Dictate and document accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain preventive health services.
  • Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Triage patients.
  • Share clinical expertise with professional and support personnel and collaborate with healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
