Requirements
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • Certification in Medical Microbiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent.
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association or proof of alternative coverage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team.
Responsibilities
  • Provide care and coordination of community-based care and secondary and tertiary level health care.
  • Operate within the bylaws, rules, and regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
  • Provide medical oversight of diagnostic testing within the section.
  • Develop, evaluate, and validate new test methodologies.
  • Communicate with end-users regarding test interpretation and utilization.
  • Teach medical students and residents rotating through the laboratory.
  • Represent the Western Zone at microbiology-related provincial meetings.
  • Report quarterly to the Zone Pathology Department Head and Division Head of Medical Microbiology QEII regarding professional responsibilities and quality of practice.
