Our mission is deeply personal for us. Ben Cohen, CTO and Co-Founder grew up helping his father — a general contractor — to apply for hundreds of construction permits. Ben’s experiences navigating clunky government websites inspired him to build better solutions for the millions of tradespeople whose livelihoods depend on getting permits fast. Prior to founding GovWell, Ben worked for Uber and Amazon as a Software Engineer, and earned his AB in Computer Science summa cum laude from Princeton.
Troy LeCaire, CEO and Co-Founder, was previously the first employee and Chief of Staff to the CEO at RippleMatch, a software startup, helping it grow from $0 to $10M in annual revenue and a $200M valuation. Before RippleMatch, he worked for two U.S. senators from his home state of Wisconsin. Troy earned his BA in Government magna cum laudefrom Cornell.
Who we’re looking for
An experienced, entrepreneurial salesperson to be our first sales hire and evangelize GovWell to local governments across the United States. This position reports to CEO and Co-founder Troy LeCaire.
Location
The founders are both located in New York, NY and work in person 2-3 days per week. We strongly prefer candidates in NYC for this role but are open to exceptional remote candidates (EST preferred).

What you’ll do
Sell an innovative software product that helps cities and counties across the United States to serve their communities better.
Many of the 90,000 local government agencies in the United States are frustrated by technology that is decades old and makes daily work more difficult. GovWell is an exciting new workflow automation platform that enables government staff in all departments to work 10x faster and improve services to community such as construction permitting, business licensing, and more.
Build on existing product-market fit.
Many founding sales roles are hired too early, before a company has established a clear market for its product. In our first year of founder-led sales, we’ve sold GovWell to a dozen cities and reached $250K in ARR. Your goal is to perfect and scale our sales motion, not invent it from scratch.
Make an impact in an underserved, but societally important industry.
We deserve effective, transparent government, but the overwhelming majority of cities and counties lack the modern software necessary to deliver it. GovWell is changing that.
Travel roughly 1x / month to close deals and attend industry conferences and events.
Government is a traditional industry, so showing up in person is a massive advantage in the sales process. Wherever possible, you’ll travel to meet with late-stage sales prospects.
Our prospects regularly attend hundreds of industry events across the US. You’ll travel to short events (typically 1-2 days) to meet with potential customers and represent GovWell.
