Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience building internal developer platforms, build systems, or continuous integration and continuous delivery infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with a Nix-based build system or a comparable system for a real product with real customers.
  • Proven experience delivering software reliably for a live system with a large user base, including zero-downtime deployment practices.
  • Experience managing high-consequence systems where reliability and correctness directly impact customers.
  • Experience owning and optimizing a large continuous integration system and compute pool, including resource management, pipeline performance, and bottleneck analysis.
  • Deep understanding of build systems and packaging ecosystems, including Nix, Nixpkgs, NixOS, or comparable systems such as Bazel.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Salt.
  • Experience managing and owning cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure, or on-premise hardware systems.
  • Ability to take a vaguely defined infrastructure problem, break it down, and ship a solution.
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under ITAR requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain Nix-native continuous integration and deployment pipelines that take code from commit to production with zero-downtime deployments.
  • Maintain and improve the internal package set to enable software distribution across the company and to customers, and drive adoption of NixOS across the infrastructure.
  • Own and optimize the continuous integration compute pool by improving pipeline throughput, identifying and resolving bottlenecks, and managing resource allocation across a growing, compute-intensive test and verification workload.
  • Partner with engineering leadership on hardware capacity planning and infrastructure procurement as compute needs scale.
  • Improve developer ergonomics around Nix through tooling, documentation, standards, and workflows that keep engineers productive.
  • Define and evolve the deployment strategy, including how software is delivered to customers across multiple regions and markets.
  • Operate and support high-consequence, customer-facing production systems with rigor and care.
  • Provide mentorship and Nix expertise to the broader engineering organization as the platform team grows.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with NixOS in production, not just Nix for builds or packaging.
  • Experience with Bazel or other large-scale build systems.
  • Experience with globally distributed deployment and the operational challenges that come with it.
  • Experience with hardware or compute procurement and capacity planning.
  • Experience scaling platform infrastructure at a fast-growing startup.
  • Experience with FedRAMP, ITAR, SOX, or other relevant security and compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the Nix packaging ecosystem or the NixOS module system.
  • Familiarity with the build tooling behind one of Revel's core language stacks, such as CMake or pkg-config for C++, Cargo or Rustc for Rust, Go, Vite for TypeScript, or setuptools, uv, or hatchling for Python.
  • Knowledge of Linux fundamentals, including the kernel and kernel modules, Kconfig, systemd, Secure Boot, and system hardening.
  • Experience with Linux on embedded targets.

Revel provides a browser-based collaborative platform and a programming language called RevelCode to control and test complex physical systems in aerospace, defense, robotics, and advanced energy. It runs deterministic commands and streams live telemetry so teams can safely issue actions and monitor systems in real time from early prototyping through production. It stands out by unifying modern software workflows with hardware development in a single full-stack platform, eliminating the need for bespoke internal tools and enabling infrastructure in hours. Its goal is to modernize the foundational software that powers next-generation hardware, helping engineering teams accelerate development, improve safety, and reduce the risk of hardware failures in mission-critical projects.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Revel closed a $150 million Series B on February 26, 2026.
  • Impulse Space and Radiant Nuclear validate demand in high-consequence hardware markets.
  • Recent expansion beyond aerospace into industrial control broadens the sales pipeline fast.

What critics are saying

  • LabVIEW and legacy control stacks keep entrenched standards, slowing adoption inside test organizations.
  • Revel's $1B valuation from February 2026 raises execution pressure before revenue proves out.
  • Aerospace and nuclear customers create existential liability if Revel ships unsafe commands.

What makes Revel unique

  • Former SpaceX engineer Scott Morton built Revel for deterministic hardware command and telemetry.
  • RevelCode and RevelTest replace brittle scripts with browser-based, collaborative testing workflows.
  • Revel spans aerospace, defense, robotics, and energy across prototype-to-production hardware control.

Revel raises $150M Series B to modernise hardware control for aerospace and industrial systems

Revel, a startup building software platforms for hardware testing and control, has raised $150 million in a Series B round led by Index Ventures. Redpoint Ventures participated, alongside returning investors Thrive Capital, Felicis and Abstract Ventures. Founded just over a year ago, Revel initially focused on aerospace applications, reducing engine test-stand setup times from 14 days to 8 hours. The platform delivers real-time telemetry, hardware-agnostic control and rapid reconfiguration capabilities. The company is now expanding beyond test infrastructure into industrial control applications across energy, manufacturing, defence and biomedical systems. Revel's leadership team includes engineers from SpaceX, Anduril and Palantir. The funding will be used to scale the team and expand product capabilities for high-consequence hardware systems.
