Equisoft aims to become the global "Guidewire" of the life insurance industry.

Equisoft aims to become the global "Guidewire" of the life insurance industry. By alain thériault, published on sept. 11, 2026, 4:12 p.m. Equisoft, a provider of digital solutions for the life insurance, investment fund, asset management, and pension plan sectors, has just opened its shareholding structure to Walter Global Asset Management (Walter GAM), a private investment firm. Thanks to its advertisers. Walter GAM thus becomes Equisoft's fourth minority shareholder; founder and CEO Luis Romero remains the controlling shareholder, holding more than 50% of the shares. Equisoft's other three minority shareholders are Export Development Canada (EDC), Fondaction, and Investissement Québec. Quebec's Enterprise Register does not provide a complete picture of shareholder stakes under the name Equisoft Inc.; Walter GAM and Investissement Québec do not appear in the listing. The register does not specify the exact stakes held by the listed shareholders, stating only that Luis Romero is the principal shareholder and that the others are minority shareholders. Well-defined growth drivers. This marks the 16th investment for the firm, where Sylvain Brosseau serves as CEO and founding partner. Brosseau sits on Equisoft's board of directors. In the September 2 press release announcing the transaction, Brosseau stated that Equisoft is the type of company Walter GAM seeks to partner with: "an established platform with global reach, an experienced management team, and well-defined growth drivers." Launched in 2019, Walter GAM says it provides growth capital and strategic expertise to high-potential asset managers. Its website notes a focus on partnerships, innovation, and sustainable growth. Based in Westmount, Quebec, Walter GAM is part of Walter Capital Management, which is listed in Quebec's Enterprise Register as its majority shareholder. Walter Capital Management states that it offers diversified investment solutions across public and private markets. "We were looking for a partner who could act with agility and who shares our values," stated Luis Romero of Equisoft in the press release. Long-term partner. Why choose Walter GAM? In an exclusive interview with the Insurance Portal, Romero explained that Walter GAM is committed "to a long-term vision of strategic development." The Equisoft CEO cited the example of Innocap, a specialist in dedicated managed accounts - a vehicle sought after by institutions wishing to access alternative investments. Walter GAM's website indicates that Innocap has been part of its portfolio since February 2022. Luis Romero added that acquiring a stake in Equisoft allows Walter GAM to further diversify, marking its first investment in the insurance sector. Amélie Plante, a media relations representative for Walter GAM who was present at the interview, confirmed this. She noted that the private investor focuses its investments on asset managers and the companies that provide services to them. Brosseau's presence on Equisoft's board also facilitated the partnership with Walter GAM. "We have a very long-standing relationship with Sylvain, who served on our first board of directors back in 2004," recounted Luis Romero. However, Equisoft's founder declined to disclose the amount of the investment made by Walter GAM. Turn on alert Artificial intelligence. Celent. Equisoft. EDC. Fondaction. Guidewire. International. Financial Horizons becomes the first major Canadian MGA to leverage Equisoft's integrated insurance and segregated funds platform.

Financial Horizons becomes the first major Canadian MGA to leverage Equisoft's integrated insurance and segregated funds platform. Sep 10, 2026, 09:05 ET The integrated platform will provide a more connected experience and help independent advisors spend less time on administration and more time supporting clients. KITCHENER, ON, Sept. 10, 2026 /CNW/ - Financial Horizons, one of Canada's largest life and health managing general agents (MGA), today announced a strategic partnership with Equisoft, a Canadian technology provider, for a centralized, fully integrated platform to enhance the capabilities of its independent advisor network. The investment is a foundational step in Financial Horizons' multi-year technology transformation that takes a phased approach through 2027. Financial Horizons is the first major Canadian MGA to partner with Equisoft to harness the platform's full capabilities to bring insurance and segregated funds operations together on a single system. "We know the challenges independent advisors have faced piecing together client information, and this new partnership is an important step toward creating a single client picture," said Sean Downey, President & CEO of Financial Horizons. "As advisor and client expectations continue to evolve, we remain committed to investments that help advisors operate more efficiently today so they can spend more time with clients, strengthen relationships and continue growing their businesses for the future." The platform will centralize systems that advisors and Financial Horizons teams use every day, replacing fragmented processes with a single, integrated environment. With the full launch slated in 2027, advisors can expect improved reporting and dashboards, better data quality, greater automation and expanded self-service opportunities, reducing manual work and freeing up more time for client-facing advice. "This technology shift will create benefits that reach beyond independent advisors," added Downey. "Their teams, clients and our national support teams will all benefit through faster support, stronger collaboration and more efficient problem-solving across our entire ecosystem." For the support team specifically, this means now working in the same technology environment as advisors, which will create opportunities to better help advisors, including faster support, improved collaboration and more efficient problem solving. Financial Horizons selected Equisoft because of its commitment to innovation and its ability to deliver a flexible solution built for the evolving needs of the independent advisor marketplace, now and into the future. "By understanding and prioritizing the needs of independent advisors, Financial Horizons is setting a new standard for advisor support in Canada," said Luis Romero, Founder & CEO at Equisoft. "This partnership speaks to the strength of our platform and the years of insurance and wealth management expertise we've built to support a transformation of this scale. We're proud to help bring that vision to life." Knowing independent advisors is at the heart of who Financial Horizons is. Representing thousands of advisors across Canada, the company partners closely with advisors to understand their evolving needs and identify opportunities that help them better serve Canadians. Investments like this reflect Financial Horizons' ongoing commitment to helping advisors and their clients.
