Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field and four years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist post-licensure are required, or a master's degree in a related field and two years of post-licensure Medical Laboratory Scientist experience, or a PhD in a related field and one year of post-licensure Medical Laboratory Scientist experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Medical Technologist certification in New York State upon hire is required, or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification in New York State restricted to the Histology Lab upon hire is required.
  • The candidate must be proficient in all aspects of test principles and methodologies and able to make judgments about applications for specific cases.
  • The candidate must be able to perform complex interpretation of laboratory results and testing routinely without supervision.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external clients.
Responsibilities
  • Provide higher-level support for the laboratory section, including specialized testing, Quality Assurance development, and the development and implementation of new procedures.
  • Perform all duties of a Medical Technologist II as a core member of the technical staff and adhere to hospital and laboratory policies.
  • Keep meticulous notes regarding experimental methods, data, and conclusions, as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain applicable standard operating procedures and policies in collaboration with laboratory area leadership.
  • Assist with and lead the development of new methods and procedures as needed.
  • Train technologists on new laboratory methods and instruments and ensure compliance with accepted practices.
  • Maintain compliance of area-specific technical, IT, quality, educational, and safety documentation, including policies, procedures, performance trends, and compliance logs.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot instrument performance.
  • Provide input into performance evaluations and competency checks of technologists, technicians, and other personnel, including students and residents.
  • Report to work at the assigned University of Rochester Laboratories location or site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
