Responsibilities
  • Responsible for their own design queue and the design process of medium-complexity design executions (includes key arts, reference provided, and high traffic event requests)

AWS accelerates to 37% growth but still trails Azure and Google Cloud by percentage

Rosenblatt analyst Scott Devitt initiated coverage on Amazon with a $335 price target on 19 August, arguing the company's AI leadership remains undervalued. The firm expects AWS to reach a 45% growth rate by end-2026, above the Street's 38% consensus, and projects $335 billion in revenue by 2028. AWS has accelerated for five consecutive quarters, reaching 37% growth in Q2 2026—its fastest pace in 18 quarters—with revenue of $42.23 billion. The backlog stood at $496 billion, growing triple digits year-over-year. Despite the improvement, AWS still trails Microsoft Azure's 43% growth and Google Cloud's 82% expansion. However, AWS generates significantly more absolute revenue, operating at a $169 billion annualised run rate. Amazon trades at roughly 22x forward price-to-earnings, compared with Microsoft's 24x and Alphabet's 17x.

Tech companies plan to invest over $700 billion in AI this year, with expectations of further increases. Recent earnings revealed a clear divide. Microsoft, Amazon, and Palantir saw double-digit stock price jumps after demonstrating strong results. Microsoft maintained $19.9 billion in quarterly free cash flow despite heavy AI investments, whilst Amazon's cloud division posted its fastest growth in four years, with its AI business exceeding a $25 billion annual run rate. Meanwhile, Meta Platforms, Alphabet, and Tesla faced investor scepticism over their substantial AI expenditures without comparable proof of returns. Amazon hikes Echo, Fire TV, and Kindle prices up to 60% due to memory chip shortage

Amazon has raised prices across its hardware product line, including Echo smart speakers, Fire TV devices, Kindle e-readers, and eero networking systems. The Echo Dot increased from $49.99 to $79.99, whilst the Kindle Paperwhite rose from $159.99 to $199.99. Fire TV Stick 4K Max jumped from $59.99 to $84.99. An Amazon spokeswoman confirmed the increases stem from significant rises in memory and storage component costs affecting the consumer electronics industry. The company said it absorbed these costs as long as possible before adjusting prices. The move follows similar actions by Apple, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus, all responding to memory chip shortages driven by AI compute demand. Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy recently revealed the company expects to spend $220 billion this year on capital expenditures, primarily for AI data centres.

Starlink hits 11,000 satellites in orbit while Amazon's Kuiper lags at 394

Elon Musk announced that Starlink now has 11,000 satellites in orbit, vastly outpacing Amazon's Kuiper constellation, which has only 394 satellites. OneWeb sits in second place with 654 satellites. According to the KeepTrack satellite catalogue, Starlink accounts for more than half of all 19,447 tracked payloads in Earth orbit. SpaceX has launched 12,444 Starlink satellites since May 2019, with roughly 1,660 already reentered. Amazon missed its 1,600-satellite July milestone and pushed its timeline to 2028. Meanwhile, Starlink already serves 12 million paying subscribers through SpaceX's Connectivity segment, which posted $4.29 billion in Q2 2026 revenue, up 66% year over year. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the company plans to begin initial satellite internet service this year.
