Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent work experience is required.
- Thorough technical and mechanical knowledge is required.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers, control systems, alternating-current and direct-current drives, combustion control, and high voltage is required.
- A minimum of four years of experience in heavy manufacturing is required; steelmaking, automotive, or forging experience is preferred.
- Documented continuous-improvement experience is required.
- Basic computer skills in data management and analysis, word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet use are required.
- The ability to work in hazardous and dirty plant conditions subject to weather and temperature extremes is required.
- The ability to serve on a 24/7 on-call basis and respond to issues and concerns is required.
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required due to government military contracts.
Responsibilities
- Direct the Maintenance department in preparing and fulfilling repair and construction schedules that maximize the availability of production equipment and facilities throughout the plants and office areas.
- Uphold all facility safety and housekeeping standards.
- Train and assign employees, update the training database, monitor performance, and administer discipline.
- Review previous-shift activity and maintenance issues, take appropriate corrective action, and close out work orders and preventive-maintenance inspections in the system as required.
- Maintain a minimum safe supply of critical spare parts and direct preventive-maintenance programs.
- Guide the maintenance workforce toward compliance with repair specifications and quality-of-work standards.
- Manage cost responsibilities related to repairs and other maintenance-budgeting issues.
- Ensure a well-trained and properly motivated workforce.
- Develop continuous-improvement activities to create efficient utilization of employees.
- Develop safe and well-maintained departmental areas.
- Interpret and administer company and bargaining-unit documents consistently with sound management procedures.
Desired Qualifications
- A journeyman license is preferred.
- Union-shop experience is preferred.
- Experience in maintenance planning and computerized maintenance management systems is a plus.
