Requirements
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent general education degree is required.
  • Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: an Associate’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, two years equivalent to 48 semester hours of study at a regionally accredited institution, or successful completion of the Paraprofessional Assessment Test.
  • Applicants with degrees from foreign universities must obtain a foreign transcript evaluation.
  • Effectively communicate in English by speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Read and interpret procedures, policies, regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations and apply them to U.S. currency, weight, volume, and distance measurements.
  • Resolve practical problems and handle non-standard situations.
  • Interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions.
  • Complete six hours of special education training annually.
  • Work with children with disabilities.
  • Present a lesson.
  • Use office machines.
  • Lift up to 70 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Assist intensive-level multiple-disability students during the school day.
  • Assist assigned students with physical tasks and personal hygiene, including feeding and toileting.
  • Assist teachers with instructional support services.
  • Instruct small groups.
  • Tutor students one-on-one.
  • Assist with classroom management.
  • Conduct parent involvement activities.
  • Provide instructional support in the library, media center, and computer lab as needed.
  • Supervise students on morning and afternoon buses, in the gym, hallways, and other assigned areas.
  • Communicate with students, staff, agencies, and community members.
  • Assist students with studies, tutor them, and monitor their progress.
  • Prepare instructional materials and supplies for student use.
  • Accompany assigned students when trips are necessary.
  • Immediately report accidents, assaults, property destruction, and abusive behavior.
  • Operate classroom and office equipment.
  • Adhere to District policies and regulations.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
