Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Create a dynamic, learner-centered environment using varied teaching methods based on educational theory and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
  • Coach and mentor students, confer with them about their progress, and assist them in developing learning plans to achieve course objectives.
  • Maintain and enhance competence in the subjects being taught.
  • Confer with colleagues to assure course integrity across programs and the curriculum as a whole.
  • Prepare and review written examinations, papers, and student projects; supervise independent study projects as needed; and evaluate learner performance in classroom and clinical settings.
  • Notify the Course Manager about at-risk students or unusual occurrences.
  • Supervise or teach clinical rotations in acute, community, and laboratory settings, as well as internship and preceptorship courses.
  • Document student progress on appropriate forms.
  • Design evidence-based teaching and evaluation practices using existing literature.
  • Design and implement scholarly activities as agreed upon with the evaluator.
  • Engage in scholarly activities involving dissemination and professional peer review.
  • Participate in Faculty Organization meetings, College of Nursing faculty meetings, and University or College committees as needed.
  • Provide service to the nursing profession and community and participate in University and College of Nursing events as specified.
  • Clarify the nursing curriculum and programmatic requirements for students.
  • Provide information so students can make appropriate academic decisions.
  • Increase student awareness of available educational resources.
  • Discuss student academic progress and progression toward educational goals.
  • Refer students to institutional and community support services when appropriate.
  • Forward relevant student information about needs and preferences that could influence College of Nursing policy and enhance the learning environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning is preferred.
  • Teaching experience with diverse students at the baccalaureate or higher degree level is preferred.
  • Experience working with leadership in healthcare and academic institutions and community organizations is preferred.
