  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in one of the following: Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences or Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, Physical Geography, Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.
  • All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. Foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the posting closing date.
  • A driver's license valid in New Jersey is required only if operating a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties.
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
  • New hires must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey within one year of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Under close supervision, learn to conduct routine surveys, studies, inspections, and investigations related to improving or monitoring environmental conditions and enforcing environmental laws and regulations.
  • For Position 1, review complex remedial reports involving PFAS investigation and remediation; determine whether contaminated soil and groundwater have been investigated and remediated in accordance with state regulations and standards.
  • For Position 1, conduct site visits to confirm work is being performed or that the selected remedy remains in place and protective.
  • For Position 2, coordinate brownfield investigation, remediation, and redevelopment for applicable programs with respect to PFAS contamination.
  • For Position 2, review scopes of work containing PFAS sampling components, especially for landfill scopes of work.
  • For Position 2, review and inspect documents submitted by Licensed Site Remediation Professionals to ensure investigations and remediations comply with regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • For Position 1, oversee responsible parties' investigations of PFAS-contaminated sites and perform administrative and technical reviews of remedial documents in accordance with CERCLA, RCRA, NJDEP technical requirements, NJDEP ARRCs, and other applicable state and federal regulations and guidance.
  • For Position 1, interact with the regulated community, other DEP divisions, USEPA Region 2, and the public, and conduct inspections.
  • For Position 2, work on and travel to challenging sites in overburdened communities where PFAS contamination is a concern.
  • Perform other related duties.
