Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Previous related experience is preferred, but the employer will train the right person.
  • Basic computer skills are required, including using email and navigating PDF, Word, and Excel documents; completing forms; and saving and sending attachments by email.
  • The candidate must be able to operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • The candidate must comply with health codes and inspections.
  • The candidate must routinely lift 40 pounds and perform strenuous physical activity, including climbing ladders, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.
  • The candidate must work outdoors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver's license and qualify for BFAS insurance.
  • The candidate must be willing to cross-train in the housekeeping department.
  • Applicants must have valid U.S. work authorization that does not now or in the future require visa sponsorship.
  • The candidate must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
  • Participate in all food preparation and handling.
  • Prepare special meal substitutes when necessary.
  • Serve guests during the peak lunch period, including bussing and pre-bussing tables, refilling drink options, and keeping the dining room clean.
  • Interact with visitors, volunteers, and staff in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Keep the buffet, salad bar, and drink area stocked and clean.
  • Wash dishes.
  • Complete general and deep cleaning, including weekly and monthly chore assignments.
  • Work at on-site and off-site catering functions when needed.
  • Operate the register properly without shrinkage during the lunch period.
  • Record refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily.
  • Unload food deliveries and stock them appropriately.
  • Work weekends, including Sundays, and some evenings.
  • Assist other team members with their work.
  • Identify improvements to tasks.
  • Bring issues to the Hospitality Services Manager's attention immediately.
  • Check personal email daily for current Best Friends Animal Society news.
  • Attend assigned or requested training sessions.
  • Advocate professionally for Best Friends' position on issues.
  • Contribute to a safe, healthy, and positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Hospitality Services Manager.
