Responsibilities
  • Operate aircraft safely and effectively in accordance with federal regulations, manufacturer recommendations, and Intermountain policies.
  • Use independent critical thinking in preflight planning and aircraft operations.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of aviation regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with team members, communication specialists, and patients and family members; coordinate decision-making with team members when possible and appropriate.
  • Ensure the aircraft is clean and functioning appropriately, and maintain a safe environment for self, team members, and patients.
  • Evaluate transports according to service criteria and guidelines.
  • Pursue personal development and foster peer education; present or participate in selected flight reviews; educate team members; serve as a resource on transports, flight operations, and work-related questions or issues; and use non-transport time for work-related professional development.
  • Assist medical crewmembers by moving bags, directing and participating in patient loading and unloading, replenishing aircraft oxygen and engine oil, and performing other duties as needed.
  • When acting as Lead Pilot, assist with administering and managing satellite base functions and activities, and take corrective action when established rules, procedures, or policies are not followed.
  • As an Instructor Pilot and/or Check Pilot, evaluate pilot flight performance, document evaluations accurately and promptly, and assess and improve the ongoing training program.
  • As a Mentor Pilot in the Company Pilot Development Program, mentor and support Second-in-Command Pilots and complete all program training and requirements.
  • As Safety Representative, monitor safety issues, help oversee and resolve safety-related problems, participate in Safety Committee reviews, implement best practices, provide training, and educate personnel at the assigned base or area.

Utah mother's breast cancer battle underscores need for early screening. By Helene Elliott on October 10, 2026 Read Daily News In January 2025, Dani Kurtz felt a lump in her right armpit only weeks before a scheduled mammogram. Although the subsequent mammogram returned a normal result, the persistent lump prompted further investigation. Additional imaging, including an ultrasound and magnetic resonance scan, uncovered seven tumors across both breasts. A biopsy later confirmed the presence of cancer, delivering the diagnosis she had feared. Discover more Optimize Ops Find Suppliers Dense breast tissue can hide tumors. Kurtz, a former labor-and-delivery nurse now working in human resources for Intermountain Healthcare, explained that women with dense breast tissue are often warned that standard mammography may miss tumors. Dense tissue appears white on a mammogram, the same color as cancerous growths, making it difficult for radiologists to differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue. This limitation is a key reason why supplemental tests such as ultrasounds or MRIs are recommended for women with high breast density. Order Calendars Following her diagnosis, Kurtz underwent a bilateral mastectomy and completed sixteen rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, finishing treatment by the end of 2025. She described the journey as challenging but ultimately concluding with a sense of relief, noting, "There was a day I didn't think it would end, but it did." Now an advocate for proactive health care, Kurtz urges other women - especially mothers and caregivers - to prioritize their own well-being. She stresses the importance of listening to one's body, speaking up about any changes, and engaging in open dialogue with physicians who can determine whether further testing is warranted. Utah pushes for higher screening rates. Dr. Jonathan Shakespear, medical director of Intermountain Medical Center's Breast Care Center, highlighted that regular mammography saves lives. He acknowledged that busy schedules often deter women from timely screening, but emphasized that even infrequent mammograms are better than none. According to the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, 63.8% of women aged 40 and older in the state have had a mammogram within the past two years. The state has set a goal to raise that figure to 81% by 2030, aiming to catch cancers earlier when they are more treatable. The tool is designed to reduce wait times, allowing a woman who might face a two-week delay at one site to find a next-day opening elsewhere. Kurtz reflected on life after treatment, noting a family saying that adversity can either make one bitter or better. She chose the latter, expressing gratitude for her experience and encouraging others to adopt a similar outlook. Intermountain Health opens new Specialty Clinic and Cancer Center in Saratoga Springs. Oct 8, 2026 Expanded services now available, thanks to opening of new Intermountain Health Specialty Clinic and Cancer Center in Saratoga Springs, Utah SARATOGA SPRINGS, UT (PRUnderground) October 9th, 2026 Intermountain Health is expanding access to specialized care close to home with the opening of the new Saratoga Springs Specialty Clinic and Cancer Center. Intermountain Health built the new 48,000-square-foot facility on its existing campus, which also includes emergency services and a surgery center. This expansion creates a connected campus, allowing patients to receive more of their care in one convenient location. The clinic opens Monday, Oct. 12, and will serve Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, west Lehi, and other nearby communities. "We're proud to bring this level of coordinated care closer to the families we serve," said Jason Wilson, president of Intermountain Health American Fork Hospital. "This is one of Utah's fastest-growing areas, and we will help ensure people here have the medical care they need." Services include cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics and sports medicine, women's health and pediatrics. The cancer center will offer medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion therapy, survivorship support and advanced radiation treatment. "When someone is going through cancer treatment, being close to home matters," said Tawnya Bowles, MD, senior medical director for oncology at Intermountain. "This center will help patients stay connected to family, work, and daily life while receiving compassionate, high-quality care." The expanded campus will help reduce barriers to care, including travel times. "Bringing these services together makes it easier for providers to collaborate and for patients to get the care they need in one place," said Lyndsey Russell, market vice president of Medical Group operations for Intermountain. Caregivers and community members are excited for what this will mean in the community. "This is more than a new building," Wilson said. Ramirez joins Cone from Intermountain Health of Salt Lake City, Utah, where he served as associate chief medical officer for specialty care. He oversaw specialty care across a region spanning more than 20 hospitals and an ambulatory care network. Ramirez also has worked with Kaiser Permanente, the parent corporation of Risant Health, which acquired Cone on December 2024. Ramirez is a board-certified otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon. As Cone's chief physician executive, Ramirez's responsibilities include strengthening physician relations and driving the system's performance in quality, safety and patient outcomes.

Intermountain Health expands OBGYN program in Billings amid growing national shortage. Posted 1 hour and 0 minutes ago BILLINGS, Mont. - A growing national shortage of OBGYNs is putting pressure on maternity care across the country, and Montana is among the states feeling the strain. In Billings, Intermountain Health is expanding its services and investing in women's care. In the heart of that effort is Julianna Papez, Intermountain Health's OBGYN program medical director - and for her, the work is personal. Watch the full story below: Papez was born at St. Vincent Regional Hospital and has now returned to help lead Intermountain Health's new OBGYN practice. "We can create a truly all-encompassing women's health care within our community and in one spot," Papez said Wednesday. But building that kind of care takes people - and right now, OBGYNs are in short supply across the country. "OBGYN is just a really challenging specialty because it is so demanding. There always has to be someone available to see patients in the clinic," Papez said. The National Institutes of Health says in less than 10 years, all but a handful of states will experience inadequate OBGYN workforces. Montana could be one of them. Papez says the goal is to give women consistent care throughout their pregnancies and beyond. "Our goal with this program will be to be able to be there for these women during their pregnancies to get early care and stable, continuous care throughout their pregnancy and postpartum as well too," Papez said. But recruiting doctors to a rural state like Montana isn't easy. On Billings' West End, many women turn to Billings OBGYN Associates, a private practice already feeling the impact of the shortage. The practice recently took to social media to reassure patients that, despite ongoing shortages and rumors, it is not closing. But CEO Rob Harding says recruiting new doctors has been a challenge - and that could soon affect expecting mothers. Unless the practice can hire another OB, it will stop accepting new OB patients after March 31. "It still is a rural community, and it can be very challenging to recruit physicians to a rural community and keep them here as well," Papez said. Misty Parris, medical group vice president of operations at Intermountain Health, says she sees people coming out of residencies and fellowships, but not enough OBGYNs. "Not as many OB docs are coming out of those schools now," Parris said. Still, Parris believes Billings has a lot to offer and says Intermountain is casting a wide net to find talent. "We have a full service of recruiters that are out and about looking and recruiting, able to go to different conferences to ensure that our need is out there," Parris said. Intermountain is looking to fill 15 positions total - 10 physicians and 5 advanced practice providers, which include nurse practitioners and physician assistants. "APP is a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant. And so we're looking for about 10 physicians and five APPs to come on board," Parris said. The expansion is aimed at keeping women's health care accessible in Billings. "It's important for us to ensure we have the access to care so that our patients can get that critical need of care that they need," Parris said.

NGHS' Green Tower on Gainesville hospital campus wins global design award. Tuesday, September 29th, 2026 Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) opened a new wing on its Gainesville, Georgia, hospital campus - one of Metro Atlanta's largest hospitals - in early 2025, and that project was recently ranked second in the world by Interior Design, a leading global authority in architecture and design. Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville's Green Tower was one of the honorees in Interior Design's 20th-Annual Best of Year Awards for 2025. Also earning honors in the Large Healthcare Projects category were City of Hope's Hope Plaza in Duarte, California, and Intermountain Children's Health's Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi, Utah. "This project was a total team effort, because good design in health care goes far beyond aesthetics," said John Kueven, chief operating officer for NGHS and president of NGMC Gainesville. "It's about how well a space supports care. And this award highlights the thoughtful planning behind the Green Tower and the impact that planning has on both patients and staff." NGMC's Green Tower was designed by the Atlanta studio of Perkins&Will, a nationally acclaimed healthcare design firm. NGHS and Perkins&Will have partnered on a number of other projects across the health system. "This was a highly collaborative design process with significant input from staff and physicians," said Richard Herring, regional healthcare practice leader for Perkins&Will. "The process included both virtual and physical simulation tools that ranged from gaming boards to 40,000 square-foot, life-size mockups to optimize operational efficiency, patient safety and clinical outcomes." The 927,000-square-foot, 11-story Green Tower opened Feb. 8, was designed during the COVID-19 pandemic and features many cutting edge innovations for future pandemic preparedness and disaster resilience. The project features a new emergency department with specialized areas for trauma, resuscitation, minor care, behavioral health and pediatrics, plus a rooftop helipad with direct elevator access to critical care areas. The first floor houses Georgia Heart Institute services, including cardiac testing, catheterization labs and endovascular operating rooms, along with a modern, bright and spacious café for visitors. The second floor added five operating rooms and the Ronnie Green Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. The third floor is for mechanical systems, while the fourth and fifth floors include coronary care, cardiovascular intermediate care and the Woody Stewart Heart Failure Treatment Unit. Floors six through nine were built for expansion in future years, but the need is already here as work to add 48 beds on levels seven and eight has begun.
