Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline is required.
- No experience is required.
- If not certified at the time of hire, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.
- The employee must meet the stated physical, sensory, and work-environment requirements, including continuous standing, sitting, walking, fine motor coordination, color discrimination, hearing acuity, and respirator-use qualification.
- The employee must be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds unassisted infrequently and exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
- The employee must be able to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
Responsibilities
- Prepare specimens for testing.
- Perform routine laboratory tests.
- Perform quality control and maintenance procedures.
- Recognize computer data problems and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
- Communicate technical information to medical and lay persons.
- Assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures.
- Participate in continuing education.
- Recognize normal and abnormal values.
Desired Qualifications
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification or equivalent, or relevant categorical certification, is preferred at the time of hire.
