North Texas Food Bank, Dallas College, and UNIQLO partner to support families through fall food distribution.

North Texas Food Bank, Dallas College, and UNIQLO partner to support families through fall food distribution. Drive through event will provide nutritious food and HEATTECH clothing to help neighbors prepare for the cooler season. Dallas, TX, Oct. 21, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - As families across North Texas navigate rising household costs and the start of the fall season, the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), Dallas College and UNIQLO are joining forces to provide essential support. A public mobile food distribution will take place Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Dallas College Northlake, 5001 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, TX. The drive-through event will serve approximately 500 families, each receiving about 60 pounds of nutritious food, along with HEATTECH thermal clothing provided by UNIQLO. New data from Feeding America shows that Texas continues to lead the nation in the number of people facing food insecurity, with the Dallas-Fort Worth area ranking fourth among major U.S. metros. In NTFB's 12-county service area, nearly 800,000 neighbors, including 291,000 children, struggle to access enough food for their families. Dallas College has been a long-standing partner in addressing hunger since 2019, hosting regular mobile distributions and operating fourteen food pantries on its seven campuses and seven workforce centers that offer fresh produce, shelf-stable items and hygiene products to students and the surrounding community. "Students are more likely to persist when their basic needs are met," said Dr. Beatriz Joseph, Dallas College Vice Chancellor of Student Success. "Through our partnership with the North Texas Food Bank, we are ensuring students and families have reliable access to nutritious food. This event is one more way we're removing the barriers that can make it harder to focus on their education, work and future." UNIQLO volunteers will distribute HEATTECH thermal clothing as part of the company's Heart of LifeWear initiative, which supports individuals and families experiencing hardship through donations of essential clothing. Through Heart of LifeWear, UNIQLO will donate more than 76,000 HEATTECH items across the United States, including to communities facing food insecurity through local food bank partners. This work is made possible because of UNIQLO's national partnership with Feeding America(R). Just this year, UNIQLO will help provide 2.5 million meals* to families across the country. Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States, with a nationwide network of food banks, partner agencies, food pantries and meal programs helping to provide billions of meals to people facing hunger. "At UNIQLO, we believe clothing has the power to improve everyday life," said Jean Shein, UNIQLO U.S. Sustainability Director. "Through Heart of LifeWear, we are proud to partner with the NTFB and Dallas College to provide HEATTECH and other winter essentials to families across Dallas, helping them stay warm, comfortable, and supported throughout the season." No registration is required to attend the distribution, but participants must arrive in a vehicle. Food will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. While no ID is required, families will be asked to share their household size and zip code. Neighbors seeking food assistance can visit https://ntfb.org/its-programs/get-food-assistance/find-a-food-pantry/ to find a food pantry nearby that provides food and often other services, or they can find mobile food distributions across North Texas at https://ntfb.org/mobile-pantry/. Neighbors can also contact the North Texas Food Bank to learn about Senior Programs and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Retail news: Uniqlo opens in The Galleria today.

Retail news: Uniqlo opens in The Galleria today. Japanese casual wear retailer Uniqlo will open its newest Houston location in The Galleria today. This new store is the chain's third Houston-area location. Uniqlo first debuted locally in 2024 at Memorial City Mall, replacing Forever 21. A second location followed shortly after at First Colony Mall. The new Galleria location will also replace part of a former Forever 21, which closed during the chain's liquidation last year. This new store reflects Uniqlo's multi-year effort to reach Houston's largest mall. The chain originally filed permits in 2020 to build a store at the mall but never followed through; the Memorial City Mall location would be the first in the Lone Star State. Sharing options:

Nordstrom Rack comes back to San Francisco.

Nordstrom Rack comes back to San Francisco. The off-price retailer left its Union Square location three years ago but is reopening a 51,500-square-foot store in fall 2027 as the city's retail revitalization continues. Published Oct. 16, 2026 By Lara Ewen Dive brief: * Nordstrom is returning to San Francisco's Union Square in fall 2027 after a three-year absence, per a Thursday press release. The retailer's new Nordstrom Rack store is set to open just over a block from where both its flagship store and a previous Rack location closed in 2023. * In addition to selling off-price inventory, the new 51,500-square-foot store will offer pickup and return services for Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack online orders. The company's only other area location is its merchandise-free Local Fillmore hub, which opened in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood in 2025. * The retailer said in its release that Nordstrom Rack is the largest source of new customers to Nordstrom, and that it now has 21 Nordstrom stores, 70 Nordstrom Rack stores and six Nordstrom Local locations across California. Dive insight: While the opening of one store shouldn't necessarily be seen as a sea change, Nordstrom appears to have left at least a little bit of its heart in San Francisco after the company closed up shop on Market Street after 35 years in the city. In its release, the Seattle-based retailer touted its "deep roots" in the Bay area and said it planned to continue its investments and the expansion of its physical footprint there. Meanwhile, the city's leadership welcomed the prodigal store back with open arms. "Three years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco," San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a statement. "Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack's decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco. We're making our streets safer and cleaner, bringing people back downtown, cutting red tape, and creating the conditions for businesses to succeed." Lurie added that he was "thrilled that Nordstrom is choosing to invest in San Francisco again" and that he was looking forward to "building on our city's momentum." Nordstrom Rack's new San Francisco store is located at 2 Stockton Street in the former Forever 21 space, in a building owned and managed by Invesco Real Estate. Invesco also owns nearby 48 Stockton Street, which is the former location of a Barneys New York flagship. San Francisco's retail sector is still working its way back from a rough patch that accelerated after COVID-19 but began before the pandemic. Notable store closures include homegrown brand Gap, which shuttered two area stores in 2020, and Bloomingdale's, which closed its San Francisco anchor last year. However, a revitalization is underway. Japan-based retailer Uniqlo opened a flagship on Market Street on Oct. 9, and Mayor Lurie recently announced that Spain-based retailer Zara would be opening a 40,000-square-foot location in Union Square in 2027. Both companies previously closed their nearby locations, in 2021 and 2026, respectively. Slightly south of Union Square in San Francisco's Design District, Canada-based DTC furniture brand Article is set to open one of its first two U.S. stores later in 2026.
