Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in a hospital setting is required.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile technique is required.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring that equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterilized, organized, and available.
  • Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment during procedures, anticipating the surgeon’s needs, and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Set up and operate specialized surgical equipment, including lights, suction devices, and diagnostic equipment, according to manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Monitor and maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures, including draping, gowning, and gloving, to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
  • Assist with patient positioning and preparation, apply sterile drapes, and secure equipment as directed by the surgical team.
  • Anticipate and respond to operating-room emergencies by providing additional supplies or assistance as needed.
  • Collaborate with surgical team members to maintain efficient workflow and complete procedures on time.
  • Assist with postoperative tasks, including wound closure, dressing application, and transferring patients to recovery areas according to established protocols.
  • Participate in quality-assurance activities by maintaining accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient-care documentation.
  • Follow hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols in the operating room.
