Requirements
Must be certified by the Indiana State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing.
Must have completed a state-approved training program in medication administration and hold current Qualified Medication Aide certification from the Indiana State Department of Health.
Must have a thorough understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within Indiana.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Responsibilities
Provide medication administration, daily care, health needs, safety, and comfort for residents.
Administer and document oral, eye, topical, suppository, and ear-drop medications, along with other medications ordered by the physician.
Perform treatments for minor skin conditions according to physician orders.
Maintain the locked medication cart and medication keys according to facility policy.
Check catheters frequently and provide catheter care as assigned by the nurse.
Document all medications and treatments in the medication record and nurses’ notes according to policy.
Maintain the confidentiality of residents and their care to protect residents’ rights and privacy.
Perform other duties as assigned by the staff nurse or designee.

The QMA is responsible for providing the medication administration, daily care, health needs, safety and comfort of the residents.
QMA’s administer and document oral medications, eye medications, topical medications, suppository medications, ear drops and all others as ordered by the physician
Perform treatments on minor skin conditions per physician orders
Maintain locked medication cart and medication keys according to facility policy
Check catheters frequently and providing catheter care as assigned by the nurse
QMA’s will document all medications and treatments given in the medication record and in the nurses notes according to policy
