Requirements
  • Two years of materials or inventory experience is preferred but not required; experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of hospital inventory practices, restocking exchange carts, bins, and trays, cleaning and decontamination techniques, and maintenance of Central Service equipment.
  • Ability to resolve emergencies related to acquiring and distributing supplies and equipment and to locate products within the facility.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, hours, and shifts.
  • Ability to maintain professional work habits, organize workload, set priorities, complete assignments in a timely manner, use resources appropriately, comply with department program standards, and adapt to change.
  • Ability to maintain good relations with management, peers, and hospital staff; attend department meetings; support hospital policies and decisions; follow the dress code and infection-control, body-mechanics, and safety policies; recertify in safety annually; maintain confidentiality; identify departmental barriers; recommend constructive problem-solving methods; manage time; demonstrate flexibility in assignments; and participate as a team member.
  • Ability to understand and participate in the organization-wide Quality Improvement Program, including orientation, education, departmental and inter-departmental quality control, improvement, and quality-planning activities.
  • Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge in Central Service and Materials Management through continuing education.
  • Proficiency in using the AIMS tracking system to track Central Service equipment, upload and download patient census information, and correct database data.
Responsibilities
  • Resolve emergencies related to acquiring and distributing supplies and equipment, and know the location of all products in the facility.
  • Assist with entering patient charges, answering department phones, duplicating and distributing reports, and ordering or picking up rental equipment.
  • Act as relief for the Central Service Charge Tech position.
  • Dispense and deliver products and equipment requested by verbal, written, and telephone requisitions; transport trays containing medication or sharps when needed, and deliver products to the floor and put them away under a charge nurse's or nurse's supervision.
  • Maintain supply bins and shelving, ensuring product labels are correctly placed and show current product and manufacturer information.
  • Maintain the crash cart and outdate log monthly.
  • Organize workload, set priorities, complete assignments in a timely manner, use resources appropriately, comply with department program standards, and adapt to change.
  • Perform monthly rounds to ensure carts are maintained appropriately.
  • Clean all supply bins in the equipment room routinely.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of medical equipment for Central Service.
  • Refer problems, unusual requests, and incidents to the Central Service Lead and/or manager when they occur.
  • Replenish exchange carts, bins, trays, and kits, and maintain proficiency with all carts so replenishment assistance is unnecessary.
  • Participate in the organization-wide Quality Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and inter-departmental quality control, improvement, and quality-planning activities.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
