Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Eight years of progressively responsible experience in a student union or center.
  • A master's degree in higher education, communication, leadership, or a related field and six years of progressively responsible experience in a student union or center may substitute for the minimum experience requirement.
  • A doctoral degree in higher education, communication, leadership, or a related field and four years of progressively responsible experience in a student union or center may substitute for the minimum experience requirement.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced administrator skills in Mazevo or EMS event-management software and room-diagramming software such as Prismm, Allseated, or Social Tables.
  • The ability to multitask complex assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills to establish and maintain courteous, effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Skill in resolving conflicts and navigating challenging conversations.
  • Experience supervising and training student employees.
  • Demonstrated experience providing customer service to a variety of clients.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends scheduled in advance or on short notice.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership for University Center reservation functions, including interpreting, applying, and enforcing relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide event-planning support and training to internal clients.
  • Oversee complex scheduling using a tiered reservations system, prioritize client needs, recommend alternatives, and participate in long-range planning for high-profile and traditional campus events.
  • Communicate with clients to ensure effective events and resolve potential and actual problems in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate services and staffing needs for events with health and safety, information technology, custodial, facilities, parking, and other service partners.
  • Lead the Event Services Planning Network to coordinate with and support campus event planners.
  • Ensure service quality, programmatic success, participant safety, facility security, and cleanliness; respond to and report safety and security concerns.
  • Serve as the campus lead for Mazevo reservation software, support facility managers using Mazevo, and work with information technology on software updates and related needs.
  • Lead development and implementation of student staff training for all University Center student employees.
  • Update and maintain the University Center student employee and Reservations/Scheduling handbooks.
  • Provide department leadership with and in the absence of the Director.
  • Serve on the management team with the Director and represent the department, division, or University on committees.
  • Participate in departmental strategic planning based on department goals.
  • Plan the budget for supervised departments and assist the Director with planning and budgeting, including annual revenue targets.
  • Ensure Mazevo and event billing is accurate and completed with coordinator assistance.
  • Review and verify monthly billing and other reports and investigate and correct errors.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate operational or procedural matters to meet department goals and objectives.
  • Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate programs.
  • Monitor compliance with unit, department, University, and government standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop reports, analyses, and surveys as requested by the Director.
  • Handle special projects assigned by the Director.
  • Interview, hire, train, and evaluate approximately 10 to 16 student employees.
  • Define performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and mentoring with and in the absence of Events Coordinators.
  • Serve as a team leader on the University Center staff, develop and implement strategic plans, and support emergency preparations and evacuations.
  • Articulate the University Center mission and goals to clients as they relate to building usage.
  • Cultivate the department's online identity through its website and social media accounts and promote its resources, services, and activities.
  • Advise and lead University Center Programs student employees in developing a strategic calendar of promotional, passive, and traditional events.
  • Serve as acting Director in the Director's absence.

  • A master's degree in higher education, communication, leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising full-time professional employees.
  • Experience designing and implementing leadership training for professional staff, student leaders, or student employees.
  • Experience coordinating or managing events for a facility hosting high-visibility, high-impact, and high-risk events.
