Requirements
  • Completion of an AMA-approved program in Radiologic Technology or an equivalent program, normally acquired through a two-year college or technical school program.
  • At least one year of experience in radiologic or interventional procedures, or completion of an advanced imaging program, is preferred.
  • Current ARRT certification and registration are required.
  • A radiography license from the Maryland Board of Physicians is required.
  • Current CPR and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification are required.
Responsibilities
  • Counsel patients on the radiographic aspects of procedures and supplement physician and nursing education by explaining procedure specifics to patients, families, and significant others.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including accurate placement of electrocardiogram electrodes for cardiac-rhythm monitoring and correct placement of defibrillator pads.
  • Use sterile technique to prepare procedure trays, perform operating-site preparation, drape patients, and organize instruments and supplies according to established protocols.
  • Operate fluoroscopy according to established protocols and adjust the dose to maximize imaging while minimizing exposure to patients and clinical staff.
  • Monitor patient vital signs during examinations and notify the attending physician of changes.
  • Under the direction of the physician, use a biphasic defibrillator to cardiovert or defibrillate patients to terminate lethal heart rhythms.
  • Obtain and archive specific images and manage image-data backup on the radiology system.
  • Enter data into Paceart as needed.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment, report malfunctions to appropriate personnel, and perform equipment quality control according to manufacturers' standards.
  • Operate hemodynamic and electrophysiologic monitoring and stimulating equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Apply knowledge of complex procedure protocols for a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
