Aesop debuts fragrance and refreshed packaging with heritage-inspired design.

Aesop debuts fragrance and refreshed packaging with heritage-inspired design. 03 Sep 2026 Key takeaways. * Aesop has introduced a taller, slimmer amber glass fragrance bottle alongside the launch of Unforeseen Aer. * The redesign coincides with the launch of Unforeseen Aer, a new Aesop fragrance featuring botanical ingredients. * The launch highlights how fragrance brands combine packaging, ingredients, and storytelling to strengthen consumer engagement. Aesop, a L'Oréal brand, has redesigned its fragrance bottle alongside the launch of a new fragrance, Unforeseen Aer. The redesign features a taller, slimmer amber glass bottle with a domed base and a basalt-textured cap. It maintains Aesop's minimalist aesthetics but aims to "exist harmoniously within retail spaces alongside the rest of our formulations," says Aï Kato, Aesop's creative director. The new textured cap is inspired by the basalt rock in Melbourne, Australia, where the company was founded. The fragrance name is written in metallic text, and an "embossed insignia on the glass and debossed cap." Fragrance story. The new fragrance includes geranium, lavender, rosemary, and nutmeg, creating an earthy scent. "The Aesop story is one that holds a fable-like quality in itself - one filled with curiosity, experimentation, and an inimitable blend of the cerebral and the sensorial," says the company. The fragrance company explains that each of its fragrances contains a "Radical Ingredient" and a "Fabulist Accord" that enhance its olfactory impact. The Radical Ingredient is a botanical extract, while the Fabulist Accord is the "imagined aroma of something which is unscented in nature." Aesop's bottle redesign and new fragrance reinforce the importance of holistic brand design for consumer engagement, connecting packaging to aesthetics, storytelling, and ingredients. Recently, Givaudan unveiled Message in a Bottle, an olfactive perspective exploring how social belonging motivates consumers' fragrance choices. The company said this mindset is "shaping a new generation of emotionally resonant scents." Combining heritage with design. Packaging design in the personal care sector strives to balance luxury, protection, and sustainability, often also evoking brand heritage and legacy. Recently, Rissmann launched the Shell Box, a paper-based box for luxury fragrances, particularly suited for seasonal gifts. The solution boasts a "smooth and controlled" opening for a "discovery experience" that aligns with current unboxing trends. French perfume house Maison Piver unveiled a packaging that bridges the brand's heritage with modern sustainability, featuring a custom zamak cap produced by Segede Industrie, a premium packaging supplier and manufacturer. Meanwhile, Aptar Beauty provided L'Occitane en Provence with custom dispensing pumps that support the packaging redesign of the beauty brand's hand care collection, transforming the products into refillable and reusable objects.

India investigates global fragrance giants over price collusion, document shows.

India investigates global fragrance giants over price collusion, document shows. Reuters Last Updated: Aug 25, 2026, 06:22:00 PM IST Indian authorities are investigating global fragrance companies for alleged price collusion. This new case follows an ongoing probe into labor anti-poaching deals. The Competition Commission of India is examining cartelization in the fragrance sector. A previously drafted report was recalled due to commercial secret redaction issues. The market for flavors and fragrances in India is projected to grow significantly. NEW DELHI - Global fragrance makers Givaudan, Firmenich and International Flavors & Fragrances face a second antitrust investigation by Indian authorities, according to a regulatory document seen by Reuters. The latest case relates to alleged price collusion since 2024, said a source close to the matter, and follows an ongoing investigation into accusations that the companies struck labour anti-poaching deals. The companies have faced similar investigations over prices charged to their customers in foreign markets. The companies have said they are cooperating with global anti-cartel investigations. You May Like The confidential Competition Commission of India (CCI) document seen by Reuters was dated July 22 and described the new case as one related to "alleged cartelisation in the Indian fragrance industry" by the three companies. The CCI, Swiss-based Givaudan and U.S. rival IFF did not respond to requests for comment on Tuesday. DSM-Firmenich, formed from the 2023 merger of Dutch speciality chemicals maker DSM with Firmenich, also did not respond. Swiss and British antitrust regulators said in 2023 that they were investigating the three companies, and the European Commission has said it is looking into "possible collusion" related to supply of fragrances and their ingredients but has not named any targets. Report recalled over unredacted secrets. Details of price-fixing cases are not made public in India during the course of investigations. In the case related to price collusion, the CCI teams drafted an investigation report with its findings and shared it with the companies in February, the watchdog's internal July 22 document showed. But that report was recalled in July after Givaudan and IFF complained that their commercial secrets were not properly redacted, according to the CCI document. The report will now need to be redrafted by the CCI, with the confidential information properly redacted, potentially slowing the two-year-old case. "From a systemic perspective this will be of concern to CCI," said Gautam Shahi, an Indian antitrust lawyer at Dua Associates. "Loss of relevant commercially sensitive data may harm competition in the market." India's flavours and fragrances market is expected to reach $5 billion by 2033, versus $2.5 billion in 2024, according to Grand View Research.

Sourcing4Good: Givaudan's five years of Responsible Sourcing.

Sourcing4Good: Givaudan's five years of Responsible Sourcing. August 13, 2026 Marking five years of Sourcing4Good, Givaudan reflects on audits, partnerships and initiatives reshaping responsible sourcing across global supply chains Sustainable sourcing has moved from a niche corporate commitment to a business imperative across the fragrance, flavour and ingredients sector. As consumers demand greater transparency about where raw materials come from and how they are produced, companies are under growing pressure to prove that their supply chains protect both people and the planet. This means going beyond simple compliance checklists to build long-term relationships with farmers and suppliers, invest in fairer livelihoods and reduce the environmental footprint of raw material production, from soil health to deforestation risk. For an industry built on natural ingredients sourced from often vulnerable ecosystems and smallholder communities, responsible sourcing also means tackling human rights risks, supporting biodiversity and helping suppliers adapt to climate pressures. Few companies illustrate this shift as clearly as Givaudan, whose Sourcing4Good programme has spent five years turning these principles into measurable action. Protecting people and the environment. Over the past five years, Givaudan has been making strong progress on its journey towards its 2030 ambition to source all material and services that portects people and the environment, and to source 100% responsibly. Givaudan has been engaging with thousands of suppliers, carrying out more than 900 audits and completing over 1,000 due diligence questionnaires, to classify more than 200 raw material families as responsibly sourced. "What began as a commitment to even more responsible and transparent sourcing has grown into a powerful driver of positive change, improving livelihoods, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring that sustainability is embedded in every ingredient we source. It's inspiring to see how collaboration and shared purpose can make such a tangible difference for people and the environment," says Adit Sharma, Global Head of Responsible Sourcing and Social Sustainability at Givaudan. As Procurement Mag celebrate five years of Sourcing4Good, it's a chance to reflect on the meaningful progress Procurement Mag has made with customers, suppliers, colleagues, partners and communities around the world. Adit Sharma, Global Head of Responsible Sourcing and Social Sustainability at Givaudan Givaudan takes action in global supply chains. Empowering communities and sustainable cultivation in Sri Lanka Facing tough conditions and low productivity, Givaudan, together with Verger Naturals, launched a one year initiative for cinnamon farmers to strengthen human rights, improve livelihoods and promote sustainable farming and production. Initiatives include: * 75 peeling machines to ease manual work * 10,000 high quality seedlings to replant vacant fields * Training sessions on responsible farming, soil conservation, and biodiversity Advancing responsible sourcing of renewable feedstock Regularly assessing certification coverage across major suppliers, Givaudan is committed to boosting its certified volumes and upholding sustainable forest management. To strengthen its supply chain practices, especially for gum turpentine, Givaudan is introducing sample FSA (Functional Safety Assessments) audits, with the first planned in China in 2026. By 2025, several of Givaudan's key suppliers have achieved up to 100% CST1 (Crude Sulphate Turpentine) and 80% GT2 (Gum Turpentine) certification. Reducing environmental impact through modern distillation Partnering with Biolandes, Givaudan is supporting the modernisation of ylang-ylang essential oil distillation to mitigate environmental pressures on local forests. While traditional processes relied heavily on firewood, with the support and encouragement of Givaudan, Biolandes has taken significant steps to change this. Initiatives include: * 32 energy-efficient fireplaces have been installed across 18 partner distilleries since 2016, cutting firewood use by about one third. As Sourcing4Good enters its next chapter, Givaudan's focus remains firmly on its 2030 ambition: sourcing all materials and services in ways that protect people and the environment, with 100% of raw materials responsibly sourced. The progress made so far, from empowering cinnamon farmers in Sri Lanka to modernising ylang-ylang distillation with Biolandes, demonstrates that responsible sourcing works best as a collaborative effort, built on trust between suppliers, customers and communities.
