Junior Natural Language Processing Data Scientist
About the job
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Must hold, or be able to obtain, a Public Trust clearance.
- A bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience, is required.
- One to three years of experience with Python, Amazon Comprehend Medical, Google Cloud NLP, and transformers is required.
- Familiarity with SQL, Jupyter notebooks, and collaborative coding environments is required.
- Ability to communicate complex data science concepts to technical and non-technical audiences is required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver data science projects in a government or healthcare setting is required.
- Extract medical and claims-relevant data using natural language processing and tune models with VA datasets.
- Build and maintain natural language processing pipelines to support automation and analytics in claims adjudication.
- Collaborate with VA stakeholders to define data science requirements and deliver solutions.
- Ensure quality control, model accuracy, and performance through testing and iteration.
- Document data processing workflows, model design, and tuning procedures.
- Contribute to integrating natural language processing models within VA systems and infrastructure.
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector databases, Hugging Face transformers, BERT, BART, and large language models is preferred.
- Strong understanding of healthcare-related data, including electronic medical records, claims, clinical codes (ICD and CPT), and terminology, is preferred.
- Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure is preferred.
