Superluminal Medicines develops small-molecule drug discovery solutions by combining deep biology, chemistry, and machine learning. It creates candidate-ready compounds with high speed and accuracy, using a proprietary big data platform and predictive design models to model protein shapes and design selective compounds that induce precise structural changes for therapeutic effects. The company collaborates with pharmaceutical and biotech firms, licensing its technology and pursuing milestone-based payments, rather than selling products outright. This partnership-centric model helps clients accelerate their drug discovery programs in a highly competitive market. The company aims to shorten the path from target to clinical candidate by delivering well-characterized, selective small molecules efficiently.

Superluminal's $60M series B to drive first clinical study: Finance Report. Plus: Gene insertion company Typewriter launches with series A; Electra files for NASDAQ listing; and more. By Paul Bonanos, Director of Biopharma Intelligence, and Lindsay Martin, Biopharma Analyst September 4, 2026 6:07 PM PDT During a quiet week ahead of the U.S. holiday, Superluminal announced a $60 million series B round intended to support its first candidate's entry into the clinic. A crossover syndicate led by BVF Partners backed Superluminal Medicines Inc. in the round, with Deep Track Capital and Perceptive Advisors joining as new investors. Series A and seed round leader RA Capital Management also participated, among other previous investors... Superluminal Medicines raises $60 million to advance GPCR drug pipeline. On Sep 4, 2026 Superluminal Medicines has raised $60 million in an oversubscribed Series B financing to advance its drug development programs, including a lead treatment for rare genetic forms of obesity and hypothalamic obesity. The biotechnology company plans to use the funding to move its lead program toward clinical development, with a Phase 1 trial expected to begin by the end of 2026. The company will also use the funds to expand its pipeline of small-molecule therapies targeting G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) for endocrine and cardiometabolic diseases. BVF Partners, L.P. led the financing. New investors Deep Track Capital and Perceptive Advisors joined existing investors RA Capital Management, Insight Partners, NVIDIA, Catalio Capital Management, Eli Lilly and Company, Cooley, and Gaingels. Superluminal's lead program is a selective, biased MC4R agonist being developed for rare genetic forms of obesity and hypothalamic obesity. The MC4R pathway plays an important role in regulating appetite and energy balance and has been linked to conditions including Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) and hypothalamic obesity. The company believes its approach could improve treatment activity while reducing unwanted side effects by selectively activating the signaling pathways linked to the desired therapeutic effect. In preclinical studies, the candidate showed high selectivity and a favorable safety profile. Beyond these rare obesity indications, Superluminal sees potential for its MC4R program in other metabolic diseases. Future applications could include Prader-Willi syndrome and combination treatment with GLP-1 therapies for broader patient populations. "This financing represents an important milestone in Superluminal's evolution as we transition from a discovery platform company to a clinical-stage biotechnology company," said Cony D'Cruz, CEO of Superluminal Medicines. He added that the funding will allow the company to advance its first clinical program while continuing to develop new GPCR-targeted medicines. Superluminal has built its drug discovery platform around artificial intelligence and machine learning, protein dynamics, structural biology, and GPCR-focused drug design. Its technology combines Cryo-EM capabilities with machine learning models, small-molecule design, predictive ADME and toxicology tools, and GPCR biophysics. The platform is designed to help researchers identify and develop small-molecule drug candidates against GPCRs, a large class of drug targets that can be difficult to study because of their structural and functional complexity. The company is also continuing collaborations with pharmaceutical companies. This includes a partnership with Eli Lilly to develop small-molecule therapies targeting undisclosed GPCRs for cardiometabolic diseases and obesity. Harsha Paladugu, Investment Analyst at BVF and a member of Superluminal's Board of Directors, said the company's MC4R program could address an important unmet need for patients with rare forms of obesity. He also highlighted the potential of Superluminal's discovery platform to produce new medicines against challenging GPCR targets. With the new financing, Superluminal is moving closer to becoming a clinical-stage biotechnology company while expanding its focus on GPCR drug discovery and next-generation treatments for obesity and cardiometabolic diseases.
Superluminal Medicines secures $60m to advance rare obesity therapy. Superluminal Medicines will use the proceeds to advance its MC4R agonist candidate into Phase I trials by 2026. US-based biotechnology company Superluminal Medicines has completed a $60m Series B financing round to support its research into therapies for rare genetic forms of obesity and hypothalamic obesity. The funding was led by BVF Partners, with participation from new investors Deep Track Capital and Perceptive Advisors. Existing backers included Catalio Capital Management, Cooley, Eli Lilly and Company, Gaingels, Insight Partners, Nvidia, and RA Capital Management. The company plans to use the proceeds to progress its lead candidate, a selective, biased melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) agonist, towards a Phase I clinical trial by the end of this year. The additional funds will support the expansion of other pipeline programmes and the development of small-molecule, GPCR-targeted therapies for endocrine and cardiometabolic diseases. Superluminal's MC4R agonist is being developed for rare genetic forms of obesity, including Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) and hypothalamic obesity. The MC4R pathway plays a key role in energy homeostasis and appetite regulation, which has been established in these rare diseases. According to the company, activating only the signalling pathways responsible for the desired effect may maximise therapeutic activity and minimise unwanted side effects. In preclinical models, the therapy demonstrated high selectivity and a favourable safety profile. Superluminal has also suggested possible future applications in conditions such as Prader-Willi syndrome, and potential utility in broader populations in combination with GLP-1 therapies. Superluminal Medicines CEO Cony D'Cruz said: "This financing represents an important milestone in Superluminal's evolution as Pharmaceutical Technology transition from a discovery platform company to a clinical-stage biotechnology company. "Rare genetic forms of obesity and hypothalamic obesity are devastating diseases with limited treatment options, and Pharmaceutical Technology believe its selective, biased MC4R agonist has the potential to make a meaningful difference for these patients. "With the support of this exceptional investor syndicate, we are positioned to advance our first clinical programme while continuing to build a pipeline of GPCR-targeted medicines for patients with significant unmet needs in cardiometabolic diseases and obesity." The company's research and development efforts focus on integrating advanced structural biology with proprietary machine learning tools. Superluminal further maintains collaborations with pharmaceutical partners, including an existing partnership with Eli Lilly and Company, to develop small molecule therapeutics targeting undisclosed GPCRs for cardiometabolic diseases and obesity.
