About PostHog
PostHog equips every developer to build better products – a single platform to analyze, test, observe, and deploy new features. We give engineers product & web analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, a CDP, SQL access, and a data warehouse… and there’s plenty more to come.
PostHog was created as an open-source project during Y Combinator’s W20 cohort, and had the most successful B2B software launch on HackerNews since 2012 with a product that was just 4 weeks old.
Since then, more than 70,000 companies have installed the platform. We’ve had huge success with our paid upgrades, raised $27m from some of the world’s top investors, and have shown strong product-led growth – 97% driven by word of mouth.
We’re growing quickly but sustainably – we’re default alive, averaging 10% monthly revenue growth, with >$10m ARR. We’re staying focused on building an awesome product for end users, hiring a handful of exceptional team members, and seeing fantastic growth as a result.
What we value
We are open source. Building a huge community around a free-for-life product is key to PostHog’s strategy.
We aim to become the most transparent company, ever. In order to enable teams to make great decisions, we share as much information as we can. In our public handbook, everyone can read about our roadmap, how we pay (or even let go of) people, what our strategy is, and who we have raised money from.
Working autonomously and maximizing impact – we don’t tell anyone what to do. Everyone chooses what to work on next based on what is going to have the biggest impact on our customers.
Solving big problems we haven’t built our defining feature yet. We are all about shipping fast, talking to users, and iterating.
Who we’re looking for
This is a chance to build a one-of-a-kind creative voice for our brand in an inaugural video production role. With the budget, freedom, and support to do something truly unique, the right person will be able to create outrageously high-quality content for a surprisingly lean team.
As you’ll be working closely in person with James, one of our cofounders, you’ll need to be based in the UK and able to get to Cambridge once a week.
What you will be doing
Brainstorm and execute delightfully weird and engaging video concepts, including – but not limited to – high-quality educational content, changelog news flashes (we’ll explain), and quirky campaigns.
Direct, shoot and edit videos that make our audience laugh, learn, and maybe cry (probably in a good way).
Turn any location – whether an office, studio, hotel resort, or James’ living room – into a creative studio. We’ll provide the tools and tech that you think would be good for this.
Occasionally showcase our enviable merch in videos that make people shout, “I need that!”
Manage external agency and freelance relationships on an ad-hoc basis.
Bring general shenanigans and vibes as the go-to person for anything video-related, including on-the-fly ideas at offsites or other events.
Some travelling. We’re fully remote, but we like to meet up for whole company offsites once a year, and small team offsites throughout the year. Our next company offsite is in Tulum, Mexico. ☀️ We need someone who can attend some (not all) of these events and shoot (actually good) behind-the-scenes content ~2-3 times a year.
What you won’t be doing
Anything boring.
Managing, or building a team (initially).
Eating pineapple on pizza in James’ house.
Requirements
Must haves...
Expertise shooting with DSLRs/lighting/mics and editing with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, or your preferred app.
A strong sense of brand, tone of voice, and creative direction.
A love for creating unforgettable content – funny, shareable, and stuff that makes people think “That was weird, but I liked it.”
Fluent in internet trends, and meme culture lives in your head rent-free.
A knack for anticipating production challenges and remedying them with creative solutions.
Excellent organisational skills, especially when managing multiple projects and tight editing deadlines.
Able to shoot in Cambridge at James’ house one day a week, and sometimes in a London studio. We will cover your expenses.
Very nice to haves...
Confidence in front of the camera, behind the camera, and with a puppet on your hand (karaoke, improv sketches, and bizarre ideas welcome).
Motion graphics skills. We have budget to contract out anything, but the more you can do yourself the better.
Experience creating content for developer communities or technical audiences.
If you have a disability, please let us know if there’s any way we can make the interview process better for you. We’re happy to accommodate!
