Requirements
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Responsibilities
  • Drive a University of Washington vehicle to transport laboratory specimens, laboratory reports, supplies and other designated materials between UWMC and medical facilities and laboratories within Washington State.
  • Work with biohazardous specimens, including tissues and fluids that may contain viruses or other infectious particles or microorganisms, and remain vigilant about exposure to bloodborne pathogens through needlesticks or spillage.
  • Adhere to Universal Precaution procedures when handling or transporting biohazardous materials.
  • Maintain the integrity of specimens during transport by preserving pickup temperatures, keeping packaging intact, delivering the exact number of specimens to the correct destination, and leaving nothing behind in route vehicles or totes.
  • Transport laboratory supplies and related materials to client locations.
  • Perform assigned routes within the appropriate amount of time.
  • Use independent judgment to determine whether additional client service requests can be accommodated within the assigned shift.
  • Maintain accurate records of route stops and specimens transported.
  • Follow UW Fleet Services rules and regulations.
  • Keep the assigned University vehicle clean and sufficiently fueled according to RLS Courier Group protocol.
  • Participate in the UW Fleet Services vehicle maintenance program.
  • Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities.
  • Adapt to route and schedule changes as necessary.
  • Use digital devices, including computers and smartphones, regularly; respond promptly to calls or texts; access Workday and other UW online resources; keep passwords current; and check UW email at least twice per work shift.
  • Teach and demonstrate tasks and share job knowledge with assigned trainees.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional driving experience.
  • An acceptable minimum three-year clean driving abstract.
  • Experience handling biohazardous laboratory specimens and familiarity with Universal Precautions.
  • Experience with customer service relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
