About the job

Requirements
  • CPA or CA qualified, with a Big 4 audit or advisory background at manager or assistant manager level, or equivalent depth in industry.
  • Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency reporting, including consolidating entities with different start dates and developing a defensible view on FX treatment.
  • Close discipline covering the calendar, working papers, reconciliations, variance tolerance, and holding an external bookkeeper to a standard.
  • Indirect tax experience across more than one jurisdiction, including coordinating external firms and understanding controls over outsourced filings.
  • Comfort building processes while also running them during the first year.
  • Ability to write executive summaries that readers can act on.
  • Based in the Philippines, able to work as an independent contractor, with daily availability overlapping the Australian morning.
Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly close calendar, quality bar, and query queue while the external bookkeeper handles execution; reconcile settlements for two marketplace accounts, prepare the consolidated group P&L across both entities, manage the stock take, and prepare the year-end pack for Australian tax advisors.
  • Oversee indirect tax filings in five jurisdictions by maintaining a filing calendar, preparing data to external firms' specifications, reconciling filings against the books, and documenting discrepancies in a query log.
  • Produce daily channel P&L across both marketplace accounts, a weekly sales report, monthly P&L analysis with an executive summary, a KPI scorecard, and product and range performance reporting.
  • Perform standing price reviews, verify margins after price changes, manage markdown analysis on aged stock, analyze contribution by channel, and compare third-party logistics costs against charges; provide analysis while the CEO makes decisions.
  • Refresh landed costs monthly, verify cost uploads, and resolve known cost conflicts.
  • Create written SOPs for recurring processes, maintain an access map, and build an audit-readiness file.
  • During the first month, take over daily and weekly reporting, observe and document a full close, inherit the filing calendar, and confirm two quarters of deadlines.
  • During the second month, own the close on its current timetable, create a dated plan to reach business day five, produce the consolidated group P&L independently of the CEO, run a landed-cost refresh, and write the first three SOPs.
  • During the third month, deliver the monthly pack without prompting, run the filing calendar, and provide exceptions for the CEO to review.
  • By month six, close by business day five within variance tolerance and complete the SOP set and access map.
  • In year one, address the FX convention, product identifier gaps, a costed recommendation on US state tax registration, and discount bands with margin floors.
  • As the role develops, establish SKU mapping across the largest channel, landed-cost integrity, a costed position on US state registration, and discount bands for marketing approvals.
  • Potentially progress toward either Head of Finance responsibilities, including forecasting, inventory-buy modelling and planning with a finance assistant, or transaction readiness involving audit-ready accounts, quality of earnings, normalized reporting, and a data room.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in e-commerce or consumer goods.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar modelling tools.
  • Experience in inventory-heavy businesses and landed-cost work.
  • Australian tax exposure.
