Requirements
  • Experience within industrial or utility operations.
  • Experience with or knowledge of electromechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of meter reading and electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating electrical disconnects and breakers, monitoring voltage levels, and performing substation inspections.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to recognize potential dangers and hazards with a safety-focused approach.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with the hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects and tools for at least 75% of the work shift.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain safe and reliable operation of the facilities’ electric generation, transmission and distribution system, water distribution system, and gas system.
  • Oversee the continuance of critical utilities by maintaining economical, reliable, and safe operating conditions.
  • Control emergency responses.
  • Interface with customers and field personnel.
  • Survey facilities by inspecting retention ponds, pump houses, and substations.
  • Operate analog, digital, and computer terminal equipment to assure proper and reliable exchange schedules when required.
  • Coordinate necessary station and distribution switching to protect repair personnel.
  • Isolate faulted circuits and equipment and restore them to operation.
  • Plan and schedule switching procedures to place new lines and equipment in service and remove lines and equipment from service.
  • Maintain records of orders issued to and reports received from field personnel.
  • Comply with general and specific instructions and verify and acknowledge standards and regulations.
  • Start, stop, and transfer control of various units of equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls.
  • An Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college.
  • Similar experience and training from the military, such as Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee training.

L.A. Family Housing provides affordable housing for low-income families in Greater Los Angeles and pairs it with supportive services. They own and operate 22 properties, including three shelters and 19 permanent affordable buildings, offering a continuum of care from temporary housing to permanent rental housing. Residents receive case management, basic needs support, and programs to build self-sufficiency, helping families move from homelessness to housing stability. Their goal is to preserve and grow affordable housing while reducing homelessness and strengthening neighborhoods in low-income communities.
