  • No formal education or degree is required.
  • First Aid/CPR training is required, or the employee must be able to become certified.
  • The employee must pass drug, driving when applicable, and background screening.
  • The employee must have basic knowledge of construction materials, terminology, tools, and general construction practices.
  • The employee must be able to safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and other equipment commonly used in general construction.
  • The employee must be able to learn and apply basic rigging practices, hand signals, and material handling procedures.
  • The employee must be able to safely utilize electronic test equipment and other specialized tools.
  • The employee must be able to read and interpret safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
  • The employee must be able to work in shared remote field accommodations, travel to remote places for work-related purposes, and work a flexible schedule of up to 12 hours per day and 7 days per week.
  • The employee must maintain any certifications required by law or company policy.
Responsibilities
  • Support skilled trades and construction activities.
  • Follow directives from the Project Foreman and senior personnel while taking initiative to remain productive.
  • Perform physically demanding labor, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials at construction sites.
  • Load, offload, move, and organize supplies, materials, tools, and small equipment at barge landings, airstrips, and job sites.
  • Prepare and maintain safe work sites.
  • Perform construction work for extended periods in adverse conditions to complete projects.
  • Perform grounding, weatherproofing, and testing of various systems.
  • Attend and participate in regular safety meetings.
  • Adhere to and perform duties under the company-wide safety plan.
  • Report incidents, situations, or activities that may affect the company’s ability to operate safely, ethically, and profitably.
  • Act as a team member and mentor less experienced laborers.
  • Cook and clean as necessary in shared living quarters.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers, supervisors, and other trades in a professional, respectful, and safety-focused environment.
  • Participate in development and on-the-job training opportunities.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience in concrete work, carpentry, or general construction.
  • Rigger/Signalperson certification.
  • Heavy equipment experience.
  • Prior experience in Alaska’s rural construction industry.
  • A valid state driver’s license and qualification to operate a vehicle under the company’s Driving Policy.
